I guess we view things differently because before the net and mass marketing and overexposure of artists, the album cover was the one things you could study right along with the music to get a better understanding of the album. Take it back to Parliament with the wild cartoon like drawings. Books have been written just about cover art alone. I just listened to Combat Jack podcast wit Eric B and they talked about how B didn’t like the Follow The Leader cover because it looked like they were turning their backs on the fans. Lol yo album covers meant just as much as the music to a true fan.
The cover could just mean he’s on top of the game. It doesn’t have to be deep especially wen the artist isn’t that deep. Drake’s music is straight to the point with not too many complexities so his cover may reflect that.

I think the cover is dope as hell. People have different opinions. I saw the shape of the building and the size of it in contrast with Drake and it reminds of like oldschool video game graphics in sci fi adventure games. Now other people have different eyes, minds and tastes so they might just see Drake sitting on a building but people have different opinions. If people feel like Drake is an amatuer, I’m sure Drake isn’t worried about it.

Covers don’t need “defending”. In most cases I’d say artists make covers based on what they like, not what other people like. What other people like is in the music.
I used to look forward to reading the booklets and shit but that was just a side to the actual music, same with covers. To say otherwise is just overly exaggerating. Nobody cared how bad the stillmatic cover was. Just the music was good. Speaking of eric b rakim had a couple shitty album covers. Why would some photographer or Graphics designer matter just as much as the music itself?
Cmon now you don’t remember those No Limit Pen and Pixel covers? That marked a period of time and meant a lot. Def Jam hired photographers to make sure their artists had the best looking covers on the shelf. The cover matters jus as much because a lot of times all the consumer had to go off of was a single song/video and that album cover. If it looked dope u might give it a listen. No artist has ever got a pass on a mediocre album because of a dope cover. All of Kanye’s covers are underwhelming as hell, but he has classics.
That’s not what I’m saying tho. My point is the album cover gave you more understanding of the music. You could study the cover while listening to the album and get a true appreciation for it all. Before magazines and blogs all you had was the album cover and the music so artists made sure they went just as hard for the packaging just like they did the music. Curious to hear this album. I think Drake hasn’t push the boundaries far creativity so I’m wondering the direction he’ll take with this album. Lately, his substance in his music has been a bit very blah to me, and I haven’t liked any of the latest songs he released except Summer Sixteen (which isn’t on the album). So, I’ll see, I’m hoping Drake proves me wrong because I’m ready to shit all over this album.
I’m surprised people are this reactive to the album cover. More signs that this will be Aub’s most highly criticized album thus far. Doesn’t seem as complicated as people are making it. It’s called Views From The 6…the cover is Drake viewing the world from the 6.

These arguments make zero sense. This cover, like any other cover, can be perceived differently by the individual eye.
I see it from an oxymoron type of view. The man wanted to make an album for his city, and the different aspects and demographics of life that come with it..also including where he began as an artist trying to come up in that very city and where he is now, which is the “prodigal son” of the city, if you will.
His cover shows him sitting on top of the CN Tower, which is the highest point in Toronto. Notice we don’t see from his view, which would make it seem like he was bigger than the city. We get a tiny version of Drake sitting on the large pinnacle of the building looking out at everything below. This to me, screams out success at the highest peak, however regardless of the success and clout and the view that he now has, the city will always be bigger to Drake, in Drake’s mind, than Drake is to the city.
Now, my perspective can be 100% wrong I just state my opinion on the cover and keep it moving. I’m not here to argue with men over another man’s art. That’s wild chatty.
