Royce is one of those people who learned to rap without music. The current crop of wack rappers at least know how to use their voice as an instrument alongside the music. Royce spent all his time trying craft ‘dope bars’ and is completely uninteresting as a musical artist. Thankfully he can pay his bills.
Good point. However, I think there’s a place for both kinds of artists. Both offer a different value proposition to the game. To me as skilled as Royce is the problem I see is his flow seems to be always the same. If he can work on altering his delivery to make it more interesting with the song, he’d be fine. And I don’t mean in the sing songy melodic way (though he can do that too if he wants to) but just using different cadences to make what he has to say more interesting.
