These are sad times in the Hip Hop community, soon the legends we love will retire, they’re getting old (Em, Jay, Nas and etc) and if cats like Yacthy and 21 Savage is what we have to look forward to, Hip Hop will be completely OVER! Everything that cats like Rakim, Kurupt, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and so on worked so hard to build for the future will soon be torn down and ripped apart. We need a TRUE Hip-Hop savior. 🙏🏽

Ehh, Kendrick is definitely one of the leaders of the new school, and definitely one of the last of a dying breed, but idk, can’t say that he’s taking Rap by a landslide… he’s set no standard, no ground, no balance, you know what I’m sayin? 🤷🏾♂️ If he was or did, lil niggas like Yachty and Uzi Vert would be frowned upon instantly and recieve no play, but they still exist and there’s still a market.
Like I said, it’s gonna take a completely NEW face to breakthrough in the game and play clean up, somebody that’s completely different with their sound, a true leader, idk, we just need something NEW… Cause hate me or love me for saying this, but although I like Kendrick, his new album DAMN. is superficial, I think realistically it’s gassed up and he’s an overrated artist. He doesn’t really do or say anything that WOWs me, like, I’m not overly impressed as everyone else is, I just know that there’s somebody that’s out there that’s greater that hasn’t received that limelight yet.

We need someone new. But I don’t see it coming, not for now. Maybe we have to embrace the fact that hip hop has just evolved and it will never be the same again.
Same thing happened to soul music, transforming into RnB. And when D’angeko came out, it caused a wave of what would come to be known as Neo Soul artists, but it still remained a sub-genre, it didn’t become the norm.
I think hip hop has changed forever, as all music does. Just be thankful that we were there to witness the greats.
Kendrick is taking rap by a landslide tho… he is the top seller of this year! Don’t just ignore him and complain about people who sell a lot less and are a lot less relevant to the mainstream. The average person who has no stake in hip hop is listening to Drake, Kendrick, and J Cole, not Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert. The worst thing, tho, is when closed minded heads can’t accept a little diversity in rap. You want every rapper to be talking about the shit Kendrick talks about? That’s an easy way for the genre to crumble. Hip-Hop has gotten so diverse there is room for both Kendrick and Yachty. The presence of one does not negate the accomplishments of the other. If you want intellectuall rap then just listen to that. There is more of it coming out than any point in history. But the fact that you cannot accept different styles is closed minded. People like you would hold the genre back if you could, but I am just glad to see it grow and expand to a place where rappers of all walks of life are accepted, not just the ones who fit a certain pre-determined mold.
