An arrest has been made in the connection of a recent hit-and-run that cost the life of Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj.

Fox 5 New York reports Charles Polevich, a 70-year-old resident of Long Island, turned himself in on Wednesday (Feb. 17) to the Nassau County Police. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident and tampering with evidence.

Police had tracked Polevich’s vehicle using various “pieces of video” to Polevich’s home in Mineola.

“He was absolutely aware of what happened,” said Det. Steven Fitzpatrick. “He got out of the car and he looked at the deceased, got into his car, and made the conscious decision to leave instead of dialing 911, instead of calling an ambulance for the man. He went home and secluded the vehicle. He’s well aware of what he did.”

On February 12, Robert Maraj was walking along a road in Mineola, Long Island when he was struck by a vehicle before it fleed the scene. 64-year-old Maraj was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately passed away on Saturday morning (Feb. 13).

Nicki Minaj and her father has dealt with a complicated relationship over the years, but the father and daughter have since reconciled. Our condolences go out to Nicki and her family.
