Shock G Passes Away At 57
R.I.P. Shock G.
Shock G, the frontman of hip hop group Digital Underground has passed away. He was 57.
TMZ reports the Oakland legend was found dead in a Tampa hotel room on Thursday (April 22) from an accidental overdose. Hillsborough County Medical Examiner says a deadly mix of fentanyl, ethanol (alcohol), and methamphetamine was found in his body,
Shock G, also known as Humpty Hump, was the lead vocalist in the Oakland-based group Digital Underground along with Chopmaster J and the late Kenneth “Kenny K” Waters. The group is best known for their 1989 hit “The Humpty Dance” off the debut album, Sex Packets, as well as their 1991 hits “Same Song”, “Kiss You Back”, and more.
Shock G helped launch the career of a young Tupac Shakur, who appeared on the group’s “Same Song” as a member and Shock in return was featured on ‘Pac’s 1993 hit “I Get Around”. In addition to ‘2Pac, Shock G also produced songs for Prince, Luniz, KRS-One, Murs, and many others.
