Ahead of his highly-anticipated album, Mr. Morale & The Hotsteppers on May 13, Kendrick Lamar carries on tradition with “The Heart Part 5”.
The track is produced by Beach Noise and is the fifth installment of K.Dot’s long-running series, which traditionally arrives in promotion of his new albums.
The Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free-directed video is introed with an “I am. All of us” message from Oklama before he proceeds into thanking his fans.
The nearly six-minute video centers the rapper unleashing his ferocious bars over a sample of Marvin Gaye’s 1976 classic, “I Want You”, while his face shape-shifts into various black figures. The transformations correlates some of the song’s lyrics with the individuals including OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, and Nipsey Hussle, in which Kendrick raps from the perspective of.
