Bobby Caldwell Passes Away At 71

Rest In Peace Bobby Caldwell.

Legendary Blue-Eyed-Soul singer has died at the age of 71 after years of illness. He died in his sleep late Tuesday night (Mar. 14).

“Bobby passed away here at home,” Caldwell’s wife Mary tweeted Wednesday morning. “I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years. He had been “FLOXED,” it took his health over the last 6 years and 2 months. Rest with God, my Love.

Bobby Caldwell is best known for his 1978 hit “What You Won’t Do For Love”, which reached the Top 10 on Billboard charts, and earned his self-titled debut album go double platinum.

The song’s is widely famous for being sampled in Tupac’s posthumous hit “Do For Love” and has been covered by many artists including Boyz II Men, Natalie Cole & Peabo Bryson, Michael Bolton, and more.

The oft-sampled singer has been sampled by many others in hip hop. J Dilla sampled “Open Your Eyes” for Common’s “The Light” and “My Flame” was sampled on Notorious B.I.G.’ and 112’s “Sky’s the Limit”.
