Kendrick Lamar Sweeps The Grammys
Kendrick Lamar pulled out the broom and swept up the The 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 2) from his hit “Not Like Us”.
The record earned the Compton rapper all gramophones for each of the five categories he was nominated. Kendrick won Best Music Video, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song.
Towards the end of the evening, the 37-year-old superstar won the ceremony’s Best Song of The Year and Best Record of The Year. It marks the first time a rapper has won both categories since Childish Gambino’s “This Is Not America” in 2019.
Diana Ross presented The Song of The Year award to Kendrick. “This is what it’s about, man, because at the end of the day, nothing more powerful than rap music,” said Kendrick. “I don’t care what it is. We are the culture that’s gonna always stay here and live forever.”
The song’s producer Mustard added, “I only attribute it to God and because nobody could have told me two years ago or a year ago that me and Kendrick would have the biggest song together because I was trying to get him on my album.”
Kendrick Lamar, who also released his GNX album last year, has now a total of 22 Grammys to date. He is set to take stage at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show on Sunday, Feb 9 and gearing up for his Grand National Tour with SZA beginning in April.
