Jalen Rose At Fab 5 Doc Screening

ESPN held a screening at the Tribeca Cinema in NYC last night for the latest installment of their 30 For 30 documentary series. This time, the network chronicled the days of the University of Michigan’s basketball starting squad dubbed the “Fab 5”. The freshmen line-up consisted of Jimmy King, Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Ray Jackson and Juwan Howard. Together, they changed the face of college basketball by incorporating hip-hop and street ball elements to their style of play.
Following the film, Jalen Rose, co-producer Jason Hehir, and host Ben Lyons held an open Q&A. The doc premieres this Sunday at 9 PM on ESPN. It’s scored by DJ Premier with commentary from Chuck D and Ice Cube. Great work.
Gotta watch it sunday nite. I didnt know about the FAB 5 until ’94. Dudes are pioneers the only bad thing about them that they didnt win a championship.

It’s actually not such a bad thing that they didn’t win a championship. They are more famous for their collective talents and overall “failure” at the end. Had they won a championship they might not have been remembered and adored like they are now, 20 years later. Rose actually spoke on that on ESPN. No one talks about the teams that actually beat them in those games, hell if it wasn’t for their story no one outside of Duke and UNC fans would even care about the championship those years.
