Lupe’s no choir boy, but he does cover the May 2011 edition of XXL. Below he gives another reaction to Lasers debuting at number one on Billboard. Issue hits newsstands April 26th.

“How else do you have a 75% drop the next week?”. Because this isn’t Kanye West or Jay-Z we’re talking about here, it’s Lupe Fiasco. He’s got a minor hit with the mainstream pop crowed in”The Shows Goes On” and a buzz amongst true hip-hop fans who visit sites like these daily. All the fans came together the first week to give him that big a debut, but the reality is, he’s still not a household name. Neither of my parents have heard of Lupe Fiasco, and my sister only vaguely knows of him because Show Goes On is on the radio. He needs 2 or 3 Top 10 hits, award show appearances, etc. to really get a better overall buzz for himself. And he might have sold more if he didn’t diss his own album before it even dropped. He still did decent numbers though, and a #1 debut can’t be truly be considered a failure.
