Unreleased Music: Nicki Minaj “Top Of The World”

News
Judging by Onika’s style, this rare cut sounds like it was created before her Young Money days. Other than the hook, this isn’t bad at all actually. Maybe Nicki will clarify its origin soon.
This isn’t bad… actually, I dig this. The vocals in the hook’s kinda iffy, but if she tightened that up, then that would be a dope look…
Like the vocals at 3:16 and on.. that’s pretty dope.
“NOT BAD AT ALL”? ARE YOU TWISTED ON THAT KRYPTONITE?
NICKI MINAJ’S CAREER IS AN ACCIDENT. AND ANYONE WHO PUSHES THIS GIRL’S MUSIC IS LOST.
NO TIME TO SAVE THE WORLD. IF THIS HIP-HOP, THEN IT’S BEYOND DEAD… IT’S POP MUSIC.
AND THERE’S NO SAVING IT NOW. HIP-HOP IS THE NEW ROCK MUSIC, SOON TO BE OVERTAKEN BY WHITE COPYCAT ARTISTS. MARK MY WORDS, THE NEW BEGINNING IS HERE.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
And people try and act like she didn’t use Lil Kim’s style? Come on now…it’s hard to even tell this isn’t Lil Kim.
@phily lawyer are you kidding me? this joint is hot. of course hip hop has evolved, music never stays the same. that’s the fun of it. that’s how hip hop was born. dumbass.
WTF is Kim Jeong from hangover and community playing piano for???
(j/k of course you douche nozzles)
@DERTY KEVIN
U MAD, BRO?
GET A GIRL. STOP DEFENDING A DEAD ART.
EVOLVE? MORE LIKE DEVOLVE.
ROCK WENT FROM LITTLE RICHARD, CHUCK BERRY, HENDRIX, ETC… TO U2, COLDPLAY, AND SO OTHER WHITE BOYS.
SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO HIP-HOP.
KEEP DEFENDING IT, THOUGH. YOUR BITCH EMOTIONS SHOW YOU CARE. I CAN RESPECT A BITCH FOR THAT.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
@philly no hate here. i don’t understand why when people may not like a rap song, they immediately deem it “not real hip hop”. she’s just spittin over a beat right now. just because she threw a hook on it, it’s not hip hop?? really?
what’s your definition of hip hop? this should be more of a conversation as oppose to a self-righteous, curt, unnecessary blog comment.
@philly lawyer
If that’s how you feel then why you still on this website? Just sit in your basement and listen to old records. Hip hop don’t need you, there are already plenty of fans.
@DRU
HIP-HOP HAS FIVE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS.
1. B-BOYING
2. MC-ING
3. DJ-ING
4. GRAFFITI
5. KNOWLEDGE
THUS, THE THING I KNOW AS HIP-HOP IS DEAD OR HAS DEVOLVED.
ANYMORE QUESTIONS?
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
@DERTY KEVIN
I CAN SEE THE HATRED IN YOUR EYES. IT’S COOL.
YOU ASSUME WHO I AM AND WHERE I LIVE… BECAUSE I SPOKE THE TRUTH ON AN ARTIST AND GENRE THAT YOU IDOLIZE.
I FIND THAT FUNNY AND FITTING.
BUT I DO ENJOY GOLDEN ERA JAZZ & HIP-HOP MORE. AND I HAVE A QUAINT PLACE OF MY OWN.
STILL WANT TO ASSUME SOME MORE?
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
this knocks cant front should be a single or something…i don’t know who going to stop Nicki cause she got that female rap lane on lock other female rappers gonna have to pay toll.
At Philly Lawyer, all jokes aside I feel you on the previous comment you made about little Rich and Hendrix.
It is kinda ironic when Em is the top selling hip hop artist of all time and he spits majority of the time some ignorant shit.
Jay and Em should be neck to neck in sales. But Jay has this illuminati rumor following him and Em talks about decapitation, drug use AGAIN, targeting women in raps, FOOLISH PRIDE and never receives backlash but always a pass.
Some1 was right this should be a conversation and not trying to make a point blogging, we won’t win.
I don’t agree with everything u say, but you did raise a valid point.
@philly Nicki not pop she a fucking superstar. She can really spit hands down its seems like a gimmick cuz she has all those customs and alter egos but she one the best MC’s out. She the best female artist since Lauryn Hill I don’t think she better but she the real deal. I do think she needs to open up so when know who Onika is kind of how Eve opened up…What the fuck are those 5 elements nigga you Krs-One you don’t define what hip-hop is. Hip-Hop is not a genre of music its a culture. You don’t have to be street to be hip-hop. Hip-Hop is wide range Kanye, Drake, J. Cole, Lupe Fiasco, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B, Odd Future, Jay Electronica, Fabolous all that…
[…] @ Rap Radar nicki […]
Nicki need to get back to this. She doing too much Pop nowadays
@HIP-HIP FIEN
YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW I KNOW YOU’RE WHITE?
YOU JUST PUT LAURYN HILL AND NICKI MINAJ IN THE SAME SENTENCE.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, BUT THAT’S ONLY HALF THE BATTLE.
THE OTHER HALF IS YOUR DISREGARD OF HIP-HOP ELEMENTS.
MENTIONING DRAKE, MINAJ, ODD FUTURE… IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ME SEE THE WHITE IN YOU.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
hip hop is not dead its just morphing into something we don’t like but we still go artists out here who do that raw real hip hop its just that we don’t support them but artists have to come different to compete so you might see your favorite artist step out their regular form and do some pop rock indie type stuff just to get a crossover hit and make a bigger buck..

@LEATHER-N-GOLD
SADLY, THAT’S THE PROBLEM. THERE’S NOT ARTISTIC INTEGRITY.
HIP-HOP USED TO START TRENDS… NOW IT FOLLOWS THE INDUSTRY PATTERNS.
AND THAT MAKES IT’S JUST A GENRE, NO LONGER A CULTURE.
THE TRUE CULTURE IS HIDDEN, DEEP IN THE UNDERGROUND… WHERE MONEY AND FAME HAVE YET TO DISHONOR THE GAME.

Post MK ULTRA PROGRAMMING for sure……
This girl is trash!! The style she stealing here is Queen Pen!!! Find your own style bitch!
@Philly that crazy you tried to assume someone race cuz the artist they pick but sorry bro I’m puerto rican everyday all day. Listen eveybody can’t be a social consious rapper trust those are my favs but everyone was doing that hip-hop would be wack. I’m 21 I fell in love with hip-hop from rapper in the ’90’s but their is a new skool bro. Odd Future is hip-hop they push buttons then can actully rap and they got people saying “wtf did they just say” thats hip-hop my nigga. Why isn’t Drake hip-hop why? He does the music most people are afraid to do cuz they think they won’t get accepted. Think about it from ’06-’08 hip-hop was dead just Kanye put 1 classic album during that time period Graduation. Then in ’09 Drake came with a breat of fresh air, Nicki resurrected Female MC’S, B.o.B drop, J. Cole came with illist shit I hear in a long time, Jay Electronia, Big Sean Hip-Hop is ALIVE. I’m intrested @philly who are your top 5 dead or alive???
This retard philly tries to sound intelligent, but uses phrases like “Its cool” and CAPITAL LETTERS LIKE MAC DIESEL.
Are you autistic bro?
Im 40, i live in my parents basement and ive never had sex.
sup?
PUERTO RICAN?
SORRY TO INFORM YOU. THAT’S WHITE.
NO MAS. NO PURE BLOOD NATIVES FROM PUERTO RICO, THE EUROPEANS MADE SURE OF THAT. BUT THAT’S HISTORY.
AS FOR PUSHING BUTTONS AND WHAT NOT. ODD FUTURE HAS A MESSAGE OF ANARCHY AND CHAOS– NO WAY REPRESENTS TRUE HIP-HOP.
THERE’S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIGHTING THE POWER AND REBELS WITHOUT CAUSE. ODD FUTURE IS THE LATTER, WITH A FOCUS FOR THE THEATRICS.
DRAKE IS A RICH JEWISH KID, WHO BAMBOOZLED YOUTHS LIKE YOU WHO THINK HE LOVES THE MUSIC… NO HE LOVES THE MONEY. THE KID IS JAY Z WITHOUT THE SKILLS. BASICALLY, AN UNTALENTED GIMMICK.
J. COLE & JAY ELECTRONICA– WHEN ARE THE ALBUMS COMING OUT?
NICKI MINAJ– PLEASE… LIL KIM STILL HAS BITE MARKS ON HER FROM HOW MUCH NICKI BIT HER.
I DON’T HAVE A TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE BUT I DO HAVE FAVORITES (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER):
2PAC
AZ
MOS DEF
LAURYN HILL
NAS
ALL THESE ARTISTS HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
Fail.
@YEA BOI
U MAD, BRO?
WATCH THE WHINING HEAT WITH AN INJURED DWAYNE WADE.
I HAVE A FEELING YOU WILL LIKE THAT TEAM.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
@philly I knew since you made your first comment that you would put Pac. I with you Nas is like main reason I listen to Hip-Hop, Mos Def is one of most underrated rappers of all time. AZ is the fuckin shit very underrated you can’t like Nas and not fuck wit AZ. lauryn Hill fuck male or female she one best to ever do music. And what are gonna say they have in common that they never sold out and all have message. Bro I see what you sayin underground is where hip-hop lives but artist are not all selling out. I hate to break it to you but it’s not 1994 artist like wu-tang cant put out a video a sell copies with out radio play no more digital downloading fuck it up. If a rapper makes a song for the radio its cuz they want sell their still hot niggas gotta eat it 2011. Just cuz Drake rich don’t mean he aint real. Why you gotta be from the gutter to be a rapper. Im from the gutter but fuck with Drake cuz he make good music period
@HIP-HOP FIEN
I’M NOT HERE TO CHANGE YOUR MIND. IF YOU LIKE DRAKE, SO BE IT.
BUT HE’S NOT HIP-HOP. A GIMMICK IS A GIMMICK.
YOU ASKED ME TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE, I GAVE YOU MY FAVORITES, YOU REPLY IT’S NOT 1994, BUT YOU ARE PLAYING SEMANTICS.
ARTISTS THAT I LIKE CURRENTLY:
BIG KRIT
FASHAWN
KAE SUN
THE ROOTS
BLU
TRY NOT TO ASSUME AND PLAY GAMES. IT DOES NOT BEHOOVE YOU.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
@Philly… The Roots lmfao you gotta show philly love huh cuz doing a album with John Legend covering Marvin Gayne songs was not a good look they should just focus on being the house band on the Jimmy Fallon show
DISSING THE ROOTS IS WHERE THIS CHAT ENDS.
YOU ARE LOST. AND I AM NOT THE ONE TO SAVE YOU. NOT MY JOB, NOR MY WANT.
PLEASE START THE HATE ON MY COMMENT. THE TRUTH HURTS, I KNOW.
This HIPHOP conversation is a waste of time. You will not win because There’s nothing to win. Like who you like and support who you support. Music is for your enjoyment. Music is music. A way of expression. Not everybody expresses themselves the way you like. Thats why There’s a variety of artist to choose from. Dont disrespect wat somebody likes just cus you dont like em. Cus you wouldnt like it if someone dissed who you like
@donn i agree like what you like.. but their is a probblem with drake fans and such. they base their claims of greatness off of one cd.. He is a ggreat writer.. horrible performer(especially live) his raps all have the same scheme.. His voice is auto tuned and you can completely tell when he sings live.. As for Piggy Minaj its just a joke really.. When the majority of the people claiming how goo dyou are is women and teenage girls and 8 year olds.. your a gimmick.. its a given..
but like what you like.. I can dig Drake at the right time.. but if you bumpin that shit in your car or your headphones.. you might as well play britney or gaga..
like what you like
This must’ve been her Lauryn Hill type of shit that she was talmbout…It’s actually str8.
@ Philly
Thats some ignorant shit you say, along with a few good points. But hip hop has been changing since its inception, shit look at Sugar Hill Gang. The first mainstream rappers (or whatever you wanna call them) that really made hip hop popular. NWA was pop, learn to understand that pop = popular. If your favorite rappers were popular, it was pop. Bringing race into it shows how ignorant you actually are though man. I know more white kids that listen to old school shit than black kids. (16-23 years old)
I’m 19 and I didnt grow up on 80s rap, I grew up on Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Life After Death and a bunch of NYC rappers. Honestly, in order of hip hop success (rapping as the main part of a song), the top 5 would be something like: Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z, Outkast and Biggie. (Tupac was one of the most commercial rappers until his death, then Jay-Z and Eminem took that spot).
So like a few people already said, if you dont like the music coming out, why even bother to look at it, let alone comment? <–Honestly, I want to know.
and yeah
Cosign @Donn
Sometimes it seems like a crime to like anything that a black dude didnt make. Niggas is still so close-minded that they dont let other people listen to music that they like.
this is pretty dope. i hope her second album is more like this
[…] your totally WINNING with this track. Check out the song […]
lil kims career is dead. lil kims recent raps is all dedicated to trying to diss nicki minaj. how dare you say nicki bit kims style. nicki didnt bleach her face or get plastic surgery 10 times. n she damn sure aint have to suck lil wayne off like lil kim did to get in the game. not to mention biggie and other artists wrote for lil kim!!!! lil kim doesnt even write her own shit half of the time!!! why u think her careers dead!!
Cosign@philly
umm and to the faggot who diss?the roots? yeah go search for a sharp object and slit ya wrist dumbfuck
@young hov nah I think he mean ?pop? as in a catchy song with generic lyrics and lack of substance? aka wiz lmao
@Hip Hop Fein
Just get the fuck out. First you have the gull to say that Nicki Minaj is HIPHOP, then you disrespect the Roots, people that have PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN THAT THEY ARE WHAT THIS GENRE NEEDS?! GTFOH
Now this is true rap, I hate Nicki Minaj’s music as much as one can hate it, but I guess it’s YM fault why it’s shit now. But this track right here shows she can actually rap and make a great song. Congrats, but I just wish someone else would’ve signed her and make her a proper rapper.

anyone that talks shit about this song, be ashamed of yourself. she puts out an optimistic and positive track and you shit on it? the lyrics are better than 99% of the shit that’s on the radio right now. it’s the fans that have turned hiphop into the mediocre art form it is now. what a shame. guess it’s back to “i was gettin some head, gettin gettin some head, i was getting some head, gettin gettin some head.”
[…] unreleased track from the forver be-wigged MC called “Top Of The World” has surfaced. Rap Radar notes that the booming hip-pop track “sounds like it was created before her Young Money […]
[…] "Top Of The World," which surfaced late last week, begins with some funky guitar and the song's main thesis statement: "I remember standing in the mirror, searching for a winner but I didn't see it in there/Now I've gone from a zero to a superhero." The verses are all about exactly how and why Nicki is, in fact, now a superhero (as if we needed convincing), and it's great to hear a woman rap about how she can do anything. Nicki has yet to make any official statements on where this track came from, but Rap Radar posits it's from her pre-Young Money days. […]
