Money isn’t everything. And before Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away in May, he requested in his will, that his music may not be used for commercial use. Fall back, Monster.
“Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes.”
That’s interesting. Dont want to dilute the Beastie Boy’s name and brand…i could respect that.
I miss MCA…its crazy how i didnt realize how important he really was when he was here. I remember bumping License to Ill on vinyl in the summer of like 87….i was like nine years old.
I wonder how Jay-Z feels about this, since he rapes the opportunity to advertise & any chance.
I really respect that.
AWESOME
Wow a musician who’s not a complete whore and would sell his/her soul for a buck.RIP to a true artist.
mad respect
Never been a Beasties fan but I respect this. He went to his grave with his integrity.
Nothing wrong with it but its not that “Awesome” or “Impressive”. Anyone can do anything when they don’t have to suffer the fallout. So basically Whatever… Awesome Is doing that In life an looking The Machine in the eye.
Jay Z earned the right to do whatever he feels like . Quit comparing Jay Z to the average mediocre rapper.
wooopidy fuckin doo……….
Is a will legally binding?
I respect that.
man always finding a way to mention someone to hate on them makes it obvious that that person is on your mind 24/7
Thats a real nigga
RESPECT!
Its a trip that white fans don’t like their artists to have their music in ads. You never see Bono in HONDA ads….. but Black fans are more about gettin that paper. We like to see Puffy in Ciroc ads, etc.
What do y’all think of that?
he aint tryna have people prosper off his work while he in the grave, that’s real shit..
r.i.p mca
Namaste MCA… nothin but Gratitude.
he was always my favorite in the group…. Always stayed true to hip hop.
big up to the beastie boys. at least someone stands for something. had to be the white boy rappers. down with you MMG clowns….sell outs suck
unfortunately for MCA he does not have a say in this matter. He does not own his music. The record label owns the masters. Its all about the money. This will does not have the legal foundation to mandate such a request. No disrespect to the legend. Rest in Peace MCA. A true legend and beautiful person. Twitter @frankiemonopoly
Gangster
If you like MCA, you might like my blog, Rhymes and Reasons. It’s a series of interviews with hip-hop heads who discuss their lives and a few songs that matter to them. Pretty powerful stuff. Check’em out here:

I respect him outside of this none the less ahahaha

@tucq, Bono and U2 pretty much begged steve jobs to be in those early ipod commercials, that’s way worser than puff’s ciroc spokeman deal
WOW THE REALEST NIGGA IN THE GAME WAS A WHITE DUDE. SEE ITS POSSIBLE NOT TO COMPLETELY SELL OUT AND BE ABOUT DAT PAPER YOU FUCKIN FOOLS. DANCE FOR ME BLACK MAN DANCE HERE IS SOME MONEY. SELL MY SHOES. SELL MY BEER. DO IT.
Sheesh , some of you are some real clowns. To begin with , there’s been a ton of bands with “white people” who’s music were in commercials. From the aforementioned U2 in the Ipod commercials to the recent “we are young” song. The Beastie Boys were always about the music first. They made tons of money doing that frat-boy hip hop wild image with their first album, but decided to go a whole other way for their second album, the classic “Paul’s Boutique”.
Jay Z or any other artist can do what they want, I don’t judge. I do respect someone who chooses a higher level of success than the almighty dollar though. Everyone is entitled to their opinion , but base it on fact.
Oh & while I can understand that you may not be into the style of hip-hop that the Beastie Boys did, respect them if you love hip hop! They did a lot for hip hop including putting them onto big shows like the Tibetan Freedom Concerts & were there in the beginning when being in Hip Hop wasn’t going to get you money or anything. They did it for the love, something a lot of today’s “just cut me a check” “im not a rapper making gangsta music, im a gangsta making rap music” artists aren’t about.
@ me on twitter @p0is0nedkoola
why does everyone mention Jay Z in the comment section…ah alright i forgot based on facts after diddy he’s probably on of the biggest sell-out whores the game has ever seen..
Kinda selfish if you think about it… He made the music for his fans and some times commercials shed light on old forgotten song or bring in younger fans who prolly didn’t know who the Beasty Boys were before they seen the commercial.
people say that jay can do what he pleases all cause of money… your showing your self how inferior you are compared to another human being cause of their revenue.. sad shit. to see in this culture.. people were never bigger than the culture, now it can be.. this nigga can say fuck hip hop and yall will be like…. yooo that shit is hot cause hes jayz and got mad money… gtfoh
