Bruce Springsteen Praises Kanye
The Boss.
Bruce Springsteen recently gave an interview with NPR and discussed his appreciation for hip-hop and Kanye West. Evidently, The Boss been doin’ the education.
Well, you were talking earlier about how you and Brendan have worked with beats or I know on some of the songs [the credits read] “loops by Bruce Springsteen.” This shows an influence perhaps of hip-hop or at least of the technology of hip-hop and I wonder if at some point in your listening, because I know that you listen to everything and one of the things I treasured about your South By Southwest talk that you gave was how you erase genre and you said, “We should embrace everything that sounds right to our ears,” and I wondered if hip-hop was something at some point that kind of, the light went on for you and you got it or how does that work in relationship to you?
Well it was so present, you know. At one moment particularly you had “White Lines” and this was stuff that was talking about what was going on in the streets and in the inner cities with people who were struggling. And that was something that, I mean, I had my own context for that, you know, that I wrote about it in my own way. But it was the music that came along and gave voice to those things outside of what was then considered a protest music context, you know, and did so really beautifully. And so, you know, I’m not well-versed in it but I have listened over the years. You know, , , I listened to , I listen to . Kanye West is incredible, you know. I mean, the record-making facility, you know, there’s a lot of hours in those records and they’re …
He’s a perfectionist like you.
I mean some of these, there’s like, just the production. And I saw him on television, he did the song called “” on the Later…With Jools Holland — it was fantastic, you know. He’s a very, I still find him very interesting. I’m not necessarily driving [to] it in my car, you know. I probably fall back on the stuff that I listened to as a kid or something if I’m driving around. But I do listen. I listen to a lot because there’s a lot of information in it and it’s just fascinating record-making.
a cosign from “The Boss” you can’t tell me nothing
no matter how much Kanye can disgust me, “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” will always be a top 10 solo hip-hop track to me
Every single off that album was dope af and yeezy get on my fuckin nerves at certain times of the day…
unfortunately, some of you (new) slaves needed bruce springsteen, a white man, to validate kanye for you to respect him. “oh, maybe i should open my mind up since bruce springsteen said so…” i don’t need that.
shout out to bruce, though, for knowing greatness. i still had to make that above statement for some of yous, though…
lol “white man” what does the color of his skin have to do with anything
… asks the “white man”
i swear only white ppl ask “what does the color of skin have to do with anything”
yeah… and black people who think like white people.
You’re all pathetic. Instead of bringing race into it why dont you pretend your a kid again where that didnt even cross you’re narrowmind. “Black people” have not been taught any of that you speak of. There has never been a lesson even subliminally trying to convince the masses about this and the way you talk about it is as if that is how you think out of your own free will and are trapped in that thought because your stupid narrow not thinking logically mind wont allow you to do otherwise. I usually dont take the time to respond to things like this, but Sir Nathaniel, you are a dousche bag. Ps, im not a “white man” either. and if music was good enough to please and powerfull enough for a #1 spot no one races opinion would matter. Everyone would just like it before thinking your uneducated thoughts bringing race into the picture. Good day.
‘pretend’ i’m a kid again? that’s ridiculous.
stating strongly your opinion on what Black people have not been taught doesn’t make what you say more true. i’m not here to teach you. just go study.
and no, i don’t talk about it that way. i pointed it out so those of us with that issue might correct ourselves.
i don’t care what your race is.
nope just colorblind
hahaha says the uneducated piece of shit. oh let me guess that was racist? your welcome in advance for finishing your thought before your even able to type. Sincerely, not a “white man”
@disqus_UiYaMKdeWZ:disqus
you’re missing the point. it isn’t his skin color in the sense that you’re asking… what i’m talking about is black people who have been taught and trained to herald white opinion as the standard. so hearing him praise kanye means, to this type, that it’s now okay for them to praise kanye. much of the frustration black people feel for kanye is a result of some of us being uncomfortable with him ‘acting out’ in front of white people… or, making white people uncomfortable.
fair enough
DAMN i like how you think brother… do you have a twitter? follow me @Copperhayla
Same shit happened to jazz legend Charlie Parker. He sought validation from white people because they said that jazz wasn’t real music. So he made an album with a classical orchestra to “prove” his worth as a musician. It was good, but of his body of work was his least interesting/inspired music. To this day when we think of Charlie Parker no one would dispute that he was a musical genius ahead of his time, and he’s recognized for his jazz work, not his classical music shit.
i didn’t know that. preciate the lesson.
I disagree. I dont think people are like “this guy is white, he must know what hes talking about” its just that he’s a reputable dude. If Nelson Mandela were alive and cosigned Kanye, people would feel that validates him too. If Obama cosigned Ye, same thing. If ANY reputable person cosigns another person, regardless of skin color, its gonna feel like validation. You just forcing this race thing by assuming because hes white, people are thinking that validates him. I respect your opinion a lot except when you think race dictates something as simple as what people see as validation of an artist.
i didn’t say every one, did i? i was only speaking on a type. that type exists. you disliking my pointing it out doesn’t negate the truth in what i said. respect to you, too.
THIS IS THE REAL BOSS!!!! NOT THAT OTHER “BOSS” THAT B.DOT AND YN USED TO SMOTHER!!!!
……………HA!!!! YEEZUS!!!!
DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!
IF I MENTION YEEZUS MY SHIT’LL GO VIRAL – BRUCE JUST DROPPED AN ALBUM – MENTION KANYE – AUTOMATIC PRESS – – PLUS BRUCE JUST PLAYED CHRIS CHRISTIE ON JIMMY FALLON – TO SELL RECORDS – NOT LIKE HE NEEDS IT – BUT JUMPIN ON A HOT STORY – GETS U ATTENTION!!! – WAKE UP..
but he was legitamately asked if he likes hip hop n Ye is one of the biggest, most influential rappers out who consistently bends the genre lines. Why wouldnt he be on Bruce’s radar?
TRUE – BUT THATS LIKE A MEDIA LOB… WHY WOULD BRUCE’S CORE FANS CARE IF HE LIKES HIP HOP- ITS NOT LIKE NPR IS HIP HOP FRIENDLY – THATS LIKE JAYZ GOING ON THE COMBAT JACK SHOW & THEM ASKING HIM IF HE LIKES COUNTRY WESTERN MUSIC
He made produced loops on an album so his fans are interested in his take on hip hop music. Its in the article bruh.
Yeah, except the people that like Bruce Springsteen HATE Kanye West. If anything he’s taking a risk telling the truth to the reporter because the trend is to clown on Kanye i.e, Obama, SNL, SouthPark, the Grammys, Talk Shows, so on and so forth. The only people who have consistently had his back are critics, his fans, and fellow musicians.
You are wrong on so many levels, it’s sad.
GOOD POINT. BUT THE PPL WHO DISLIKE KANYE AT THIS POINT ARE NOT FANS OF HIS MUSIC. WHETHER YOU CLOWN YE OR NOT – ALL OF THOSE PPL ARE ADDRESSING YE FOR THOSE SAME REASONS WHICH IS FREE PRESS – & A COSIGN FROM THE BOSS AINT GONNA MAKE THEM TURN AROUND AND LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC AFTER ALL OF THIS TIME – BUT IF IT DOES – WHO KNEW?
“you know”
Kanye Whatever. He is good, but he is no White Stripes. He is not even Danger Mouse.
“boss been doing the education” LOL u iz verey gud at the inglish langwage B. Dot
