RIP. One of the best to do it. Doesn’t get enough props. Help lay the foundation for Rap/Hip-Hop…
god bless the dead a true hip hop pioneer
Rip Larry you ain’t missing nothing..
This dude should definitely be considered one of the most important hip hop producers of all time. If you don’t his catalogue, google it. You’ll be amazed/shocked at how many CLASSICS he produced…
Subtract his musical influence from hip hop and it would be something totally different.
This dude was a GENIUS.
Larry put me inside his Cadillac the chauffeur drove off and we never came back – RUNDMC “SUCKER MC’S” Damn mad old school hits!!!! Larry Smith R.I.P.
Damn, you must be old to quote that song….lol. So, is he the Larry Lar referenced in “Sucker MCs”? I always considered it to be the quintessential Rap song. The best Rap song ever.
R.I.P
LMAO…..Yeah I’m old but the funny shit about that line from the song is I didn’t know Run was talking about Larry Smith until a couple of weeks ago. He has an interview on Hot 97 with DJ ENUFF and he mentioned how RUN DMC basically came about and quoted that line and mentioned Larry. Dont be disrespectful with that old shit though!!!!! LMAO
I gotta be old myself to know that song as well. Lol. Am a 40-year old Hip-Hop head and I’ve always loved “Sucker MCs”.
The beat has been reused in many other Rap and R&B songs (Mario used it some years ago).
I didn’t know Larry Smith was thee Larry Lar. I think I heard he did stuff with Kurtis Blow, and Whodini too. In passing, the Makaveli sound is very Whodini’esque, imho. So, the man Larry Smith is truly an unsung hero.
Yeah man Whodini got some timeless bangers and I think Larry produced the majority of their stuff. Producers today can take a Whodini song and flip it like Nas did for If I ruled the world. Man I’ve been into this guys music from the beginning he was one of the dopest producers ever.
Whoodini? If I ruled the world = Kurtis Blow
The hook is from If I ruled the world the beat itself is from Whodini FRIENDS
CRAZY I WAS JUST DOING RESEARCH ON LARRY LAST NIGHT SHITS CRAZY RIP TO ONE OF THE GOATS
RIP TO THE GREAT LARRY SMITH STRAIGHT LEGENDERY!! Thank you for everything you did for HIPHOP MUSIC!

Lost my grandmother at 62. God Bless your mother, homie. 60’s is way too young to go, in my opinion. But yeah, at least he’s at peace. You’re correct. #RIPMrsJones #TIMELESS
