Real Hip Hop representin. I’m not gone lie tho, I actually understand where Try Ave comin from in his rhymes and his understanding of Hip Hop culture. He following the Jay-Zs and such and Joey more or less it he traditional sense of it. Age old conversation been goin on for Hellas. It’s why Jeru came at Biggie. Ian’s since this Hip Hop then my vote for Joey. Now with that said Sway should be more of a journalist than a fan man. How anybody gone take him serious if they not cut from a backpacker cloth? He’s a traditionalist and let’s it be known and in his profession he has to not play favorites. I respect dude as an OG but get disappointed every now and then when he and his crew hop on the bandwagon. Guess Sway means sway your opinion to watever side he on.

    1. marty mcfly says:

Jayz took the lyricism approach though so just cause Troy Ave rapping about drugs don’t mean he’s taking a Jayz approach. Sway been on some “backpacker” shit for the last 25 years so of course thats his thing but too many young niggas make a separation between “backpacker” or traditionalist shit and so called gangsta shit or drug dealer shit without knowing alot of them type niggas being lying they ass off in they raps and it be the backpack niggas actually telling the truth. Its a reason why a Jeru (a named derived from Heru) would go at Biggie and people love Big and he’s also a lyricist but when you come in this game talking like you an iltalian mob boss and thats not really who you are? Then the “traditionalist” should call you out and even if you are that guy, some criticism should still be leveled at that approach. Not to just shit on the rapper doing it but to say this is real art vs fantasy bars. If the new gangsat rapper is coming at “backpack” niggas, calling them weirdos and what not… I get it cause they trying to appeal to lost niggas but traditionalist rappers should let them know they from the same streets these so called gangsta niggas is from and deal with the same kinda shit in most cases. Rapping about intelligence, consciousness and real life shit is what ultimately will stand the test of time and be respected even by the most street of niggas. These rappin Al Capone niggas come a dime a dozen and 99% of them is fronted like they something they know damn well they not.

      1. Marko V says:

I absolutely agree however my disdain is more with Sway and his journalism skills. Just let his people show bias while he maintains some level of integrity at this point in his career.

        1. marty mcfly says:

I can agree with that and people should put they personal bias aside. I’ve seen Sway front like niggas was nice when they was trash and I know he knew they were but he just couldn’t say it and I seen him imply certain niggas was just better then others but I hear you.

    2. marty mcfly says:

Imo if a nigga is on some gangsta shit in his raps, thats cool and niggas can respect that but don’t get out here dissing niggas for not rapping about killing niggas and selling drugs if thats not what they actually do.

      1. Marko V says:

Well again Troy is trying to live out his idea of what inspired him to rap in the first place. Whether he did it in the streets or not is not even up for question cuz I don’t know if Hov lost them bricks and got em back. Or if Face was really robbin cats like he said. Shoot even Ice Cube had been proven to be a studio gangsta and he was one of the originators of street rap. Even in Troy Ave diss he was just staying true to the image he came into the game with. cant knock him for keepin it 100 in the current climate of Hip Hop. If u disagree then you gotta get a lot of other rappers outta here before you point at Troy Ave.

        1. marty mcfly says:

You said you don’t know what Troy Ave did and didn’t do in the streets and then you said he’s keeping it 100 for “trying to live out his idea… and staying true to an image”… Now I don’t have to call out no other rappers if we only talking about two (Troy and Badass). Jayz don’t have to come out here and prove the validity of his rhymes before somebody can comment on Troy Ave. My thing is this, don’t get out here and knock niggas who actually do keep it a 100 if there is any questions based upon your content being authentic. For niggas trying to live up to the idea of a gangsta and hold up an image of a gangsta? Don’t then knock the niggas that just are their authentic self when they rap.

As far as Ice Cube is concerned. I really think people need to re listen to exactly what he was saying in them songs. Cube never “claimed” (in a L.A sense) to be a gangsta, he claimed to be hard. Now if he’s one of the first to pioneer gangsta rap during that height of gang violence in L.A coming straight outta South Central, Its almost certain Ice Cube was nothing to fuck with. When he came out he claimed to be a rapper, he was not claiming any particular set or reputation as a G.

Not to make this about Ice Cube or Jayz or Scarface but just saying this, if you coming out here saying you a killer and a drug lord etc.. Cool, if you are who you say you are then the real will vouch for your street activity but don’t knock niggas for just being who they are without having to hold up a gangsta image or live out the idea of one.

        2. brandish says:

I listen to Troy Ave and I never heard him talking like he was the cocaine kingpin moving tons of bricks, making deals with Noreaga, being the plug (a la Rick Ross), it all sounds like authentic hustling raps, I heard him saying he aspired to get “A Brick”, a Mercedes, a Rolex and some $$$. The coke talk (the numbers & the details) all sounds real (when u know what’s up), that’s why he says he makes his music for his fans, the “real ones”. I put him up there with the Pusha T with his dope boy authenticity. But because of that Troy will have a limited fan base his message doesn’t relate to the average hip hop listener in 2016.

Im an old head & lived thru hip hop in the 80s and 90s & Joey can rap his ass off & is more lyrical than Troy but that “3rd eye-metaphysical-miracle” shit doesnt relate to me at all none of his music sticks with me for more than a couple listens.

          1. marty mcfly says:

My thing is this, if your a real authentic dope boy does that mean everybody else is not real just cause they not selling dope? Their weirdos for not rapping things they don’t do? Thats all I’m sayin. Troy can sell as many bricks as he wants. I’mo its helping white people (the real dope boys) destroy black communities but I understand that niggas gotta get they paper so its whatever but that “3rd eye metaphysical-miracle” shit? If your black, thats your natural mind coming back to you. I’m sorry but the only reason why niggas say they don’t relate is because they wont take the time out to look at exactly what the metaphysical shit is saying. That was the basis of African culture for thousands of years. All it means, is somebody who is tune with his higher self. Thats all it means. Why is this important? Because niggas is looking at the world through european eyes but they just don’t realize it. This creates the mentality of a Troy Ave and again, I’m not mad at the nigga, I speak from a place of understanding not trying to say I’m better or smarter then him or anybody else living that life but once you understand what the “3rd eye” shit really means then you stop seeing the world through european eyes which is capitalism, get money over everything even if it means the destruction of yourself and others etc… You then have a perspective thats from outside the matrix so while your in it (the matrix being a european controlled society) you start to think different, move different and see things on a broader scope.

          2. marty mcfly says:

As for Pusha T, damn near his whole team got football numbers in prison now and Malice left.

    3. Selorm Amuzu says:

It goes deeper than just Joey Badass, Since his come-up, Troy Ave has made it a point to seperate himself from people he feels doesn’t represent his street sensibilities and alienates them and looks down upon them and call them wierdos which is fine… problem is majority of those artists make better music than him and are more creative by leaps and bounds…. As much he follows the blueprints of Jay-Z, 50cent and other street orientated artists (particularly NORE), where he fucked up is not utilising those more creative minds…. Make no mistake, Jay was a street rapper but he was not stupid enough to look down upon guys like Kanye and a Pharrell (Pharrell is an especially important factor in creating the sound of artists like NORE and Clipse) and for that, Troy Ave is paying for it

  5. Marko V says:

He had them bars waiting in a song already he just never dropped it. This was the erecting time for him to share the lyrics since Troy Ace dropped a video.

  6. Captain Jack says:

    Yeah he nice

  7. Public Hairs says:

When I looked at the draft of 6895 dollars, I have faith that brother of my friend was like really generating cash in his free time with his PC..ip His aunt’s neighbor has done this for only 11 months and by now repaid the loan on their home and bought a new Car.

He’s actually saying stuff worth listening too… And the verse about his man’s suicide was deep.

  10. hehe says:

anybody know the beat at roughly a minute 40? Sounds like a bad boy song but I can’t put my finger on it.

    1. brandish says:

the original was Public Enemy’s rebel without a pause, Diddy did sample it tho.

      1. hands mahoney says:

you mean the public enemy song “public enemy number 1” right?

  11. ATL says:

Refreshing… Good to hear some authentic hiphop in 2016

  12. Black says:

OKAY! If he keep this aggression & switches up the flows he’ll have the clubs as well as the love. Always knew he was better lyrically,my point was I Troy made some factual points about his label situation & how hot he is in the streets. {For instance,Dave East is hot now & the streets of NYC will let ya know that 1st not the internet} P.S. Troy has committed career suicide & twice, when he called out Kendrick Lamar & speaking on Steez’s death

  13. realtalk82 says:

I almost lost my shit when they were looking for the Bow Down beat!!! That would would have been insane

  14. Dark Matters says:

I enjoyed this. Bless the kid.

  15. TopNotchN3gro says:

Troy just needs to stay in his ave bcuz he is not lyrically fit to go toe 2 toe with Joey.
