Gave You Power
Recognized for their good deeds, Nasir Jones shares one of the four covers of EBONY‘s ‘The EBONY Power 100’ issue along with John Legend, Ava DuVernay, and Simone Biles. Says Esco:
“When I see injustice it hurts, so I speak about it. It just so happens I might be wearing a Dries Van Noten suit while I’m speaking. I like things in the world that are appealing to the eye. So why lie about it?” he acknowledges, mentioning his penchant for Italian shoes. “One thing that kills me is these holier than thou, super clean phonies who walk around like they live in heaven and they’re a step above everybody else. No, we’re human beings striving to be the best we can be. We’re striving for greatness all the time.”
Nas a god MC…….
All due respect to Nas but the way Common been spittin these last few years? He coming for Nas spot.
I think common is a god mc as well, he always been dope.
And then there’s Lupe…
AND THEN THERE’S YOUNG JEEZY AND LIL WAYNE!!
FUCK YOUR OPINION!!
Mos def, black thought is another 1…….
I don’t put Mos and Black Thought up there with Nas but I can see how people would put Black Thought up there though. For the most part Nas can’t really be challenged as far as his position goes BUT Common is imo making an argument at this point that his position in terms of all time greats is debatable with Nas.
I dont feel commons spot is debatable, to me up there with the best of them. Black thought is nasty, he went bar for bar with big pun on super lyrical……
I feel like the people up there with the best of them? Have spots that are debatable among them. In terms of Nas and Common? Imo Common at this point has caught up to Nas…
As far as Black Thought goes, I personally don’t put him up there with Nas but again I understand why people do. Talking about his lyrical ability is a valid point but in a debate with Nas, lyricism is a given.
Nas is a better emcee than Common. End of story.
That to me sounds crazy. I can’t say Common is better but I also can’t say Nas is better but I can say Common uses more wordplay per couplet then Nas and most of his material is either just as conscious or more. When it comes to punchlines? Common buries Nas, in terms of consistently dynamic deliveries while rhyming multi syllables, Common also buries Nas.
Nas > Common
Ok but not for lyrical reasons because clearly Common also has lyrics. Its like saying Nas > Lupe? That might be true but its not because of lyricism.
Lyrically? Lupe.
Just an example to show that once lyrics are considered? Nas is still a one of the greats but he aint invincible. There are artists that can debate Nas in a lyrical context. Again, I’m not suggesting Common has passed Nas, I’m saying he’s closing in…
Nas has albums in double digits with classic material. As of the Black America Again album, now so does Common. Imo Nas still has the lead but Common is working though.
Common got classics, but his catalog ain’t seeing Nas’s so he couldn’t possibly take his spot, but i’ll give him the last two projects!!!
I think people should re-look at that catalog because they may start to see that song for song, bar for bar, Common is definitely seeing Nas.
You’ve mentioned mainly recent tracks, bar for bar, album for album Common is not seeing Nas and I’m a fan, it doesn’t even warrant a debate. Outside of his own catalog Nas got some classic work with AZ, His verse on Mobb Deep’s Eye for an Eye, Book Of Rhymes, Distant Relatives, his verse on Missy’s Hot Boy remix, Nas Album is Coming, Distant Relatives etc…I can go on and on…Common is not seeing Nas!!!
You can use tracks from whenever, Common been out here a long time. I think you just saying Common aint seeing Nas but you aint looking at Common’s catalog cause CLEARLY he is seeing Nas and its very debatable.
Common got classic works with Black Thought, Mos and Talib, Erykah Badu, Kanye West, J Dilla, John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Cee Lo, D’Angelo, and a bunch of other singers which now include Stevie Wonder so you aint saying too much by bringing up works with other people. Common got that too.
The “classic” argument? I can see but the “bar for bar” argument? Common got Nas on that imo. Lyrics is not a weapon Nas can use against Common. I will say yeah Nas has more material out overall giving him a lead but to say Common aint even “seeing” Nas? I disagree with that. He definitely can “see” Nas.
You can’t be serious…Common hasn’t had a dope album since Kanye was producing his shit. His last 3-4 albums are awful, especially the production. He’s not snappin on shit like he did on 1999 or Respiration
Future and Young Thug is running hip hip sorry Nas , hip hop is already dead..
HIP HOP IS ALIVE AND WELL YOU WETBACK!!
FUCK YOUR OPINION!!
