The Marathon continues

Tragedy has struck South Central today. Grammy nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles this afternoon. He was 33.

The shooting took place outside his clothing store, The Marathon Clothing on Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles. Sources say the rapper was shot six times including once in the head. Two other victims were also shot. A suspect who was seen on foot and getting into a getaway vehicle remains at large.

Prior to the shooting, Nipsey Hussle alluded to his enemies in a tweet on Twitter. Following the tragic event, LAPD commissioner Steve Soboroff sent his condolences and mentioned that he and the department were scheduled to meet with Nipsey and Roc Nation the following day for an anti-gang summit to discuss the prevention of gang violence. The summit will take place as scheduled.

Nipsey is survived by two children including one from his current girlfriend, actress Lauren London. Nipsey Hussle rose to fame quickly with the release of his mixtape series, The Marathon. In 2013, he released his Crenshaw project which he sold for $100 per cassette.

With many ties and countless contributions in his community, Neighborhood Nipsey launched his The Marathon Agency and opened up his first clothing store in 2017. Last year, Nipsey released his major debut, Victory Lap, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

As far as future endeavors, Nipsey was currently in the process of filming an upcoming documentary on the 1985 trial of Honduran herbalist Dr. Sebi. Sebi, who died of illness in 2016, gained notoriety due to his claims of possessing cures for all illnesses including AIDS. Rest in peace, Nipsey.
