Ecstasy Of Whodini Dead At 56

R.I.P. Ecstasy.

Whodini member Ecstasy unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 23). He was 56.

John “Ecstasy” Fletcher, known for his trademark Zorro hat, was one of the members and co-founders of the Brooklyn-based rap trio Whodini along with fellow MC Jalil Hutchins and DJ Drew “Grandmaster Dee” Carter.

Following the tragic news, the hip hop community took to social media to pay their respects including The Roots member Questlove. “One Love to Ecstasy of the Legendary #Whodini. This man was legendary and a pivotal member of one of the most legendary groups in hip hop. This is sad man”.

A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip added, “RIP to Ecstasy from Whodini.one of the most under appreciated voices in hip hop. Too many hits! Condolences to his fam.”

Meanwhile, Jermaine Dupri, who was a breakdancer for Whodini and signed the group to So So Def in 1996 wrote, “My God, this one hurts me so bad, I can’t even believe I’m posting this, Ex you know I love you 🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you for every word,every conversation every good time, may your soul Rest In Power 🕊🕊🕊 #whodini #mystart“.

Whodini is among the rap pioneers who are best known for their 1983 breakout “The Haunted House of Rock”, 1984’s hits “Five Minutes Of Funk” and “Friends”, the popular “Freaks Come Out At Night” from 1985, the 1986 classic “One Love”, and many more.
