Rapper Mystikal has been indicted on first-degree rape over an alleged sexual assault from July and could face up to life in prison if convicted.

Nola.com reports The Ascension Parish grand jury handed the rape charge and nine other charges including single counts of simple criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, simple robbery.

In a separate indictment, 51-year-old New Orleans native, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, was charged with possession of heroin, illegal possession of Xanax, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from the narcotics that were found later at his home following his arrest.

Mystikal was taken into custody July 31 after Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies responded to a local hospital for a victim of a sexual assault that occurred at the rapper’s home the night before.

“It’s an indictment,” Joel Pearce, the attorney, said on Wednesday. “It means nothing. We look forward to our day in court.” Tyler, who is a lifetime sex offender, remains at Ascension Parish Prison without bail.

Mystikal has a long history with the law. He served six years in prison for sexual battery and extortion in 2003 after forcing his hairstylist to perform oral sex on him and his two bodyguards. Mystikal also served 3 months for violating his probation following a domestic dispute. In 2017, he was indicted on another sexual assault where he served 18 months before he was released on bond in 2019. The charges were later dismissed the following year due to lack of evidence.
