Lil Wayne On The Carter Documentary

In the new issue of Ozone, Wayne explains why he tried to thwart the release of last year’s documentary,  The Carter. According to the film’s director QD3, Weezy stopped supporting the project days before the Sundance Film Festival.

There was some controversy over the release of The Carter documentary. Did you feel like they emphasized the drug addiction aspect too much? Is that the reason you didn’t want it released?
The fact that we didn’t want it released was business; paperwork. I feel like, if I agreed to have that camera around me, then I can’t tell that person what to edit when they go to the editing room, unless I am in the editing room and editing with them. If I’m not then I shouldn’t complain, but I was supposed to have a say-so because I had to approve it. And that was the whole [problem]. I didn’t approve it and they still put it out.

So you weren’t happy with the creative aspect or the business or both?
It was some of both. There were females on there with me and shit, you know? Why give them some shine when I’ve got baby mothers? I believe as an editor or whatever, as a person associated with me, if you want to become a real business partner with me I believe you should consider things like that. I shouldn’t have to be the one to consider it.

Or you could try not having groupies around you when cameras are shooting a documentary? Just a thought?

  3. justinaire says:

“There were women with me, why give them shine when I got baby mothers?” LMAO. Why dont you ask yourself that Mr. Carter. If it was contractually stipulated that Weezy has final cut privileges and has a say so in the final product then it should not have been released. THAT’S not my problem. My problem is the whole “why did you show the world my life” bullshit he was saying. Wayne doesnt seem to understand….this movie is a PERFECT representation of your music. You’ll say “I love my baby mamas/They get my highest honor” in one line then later rap about the girls you fucking. And if you say..”thats just him being creative he doesnt mean it” then thats the same with the movie, it didnt suggest that he was fucking any of these women just that they were PHYSICALLY with him…which he cant dispute because of this little called video evidence.

I bet the real reason is indeed that he was made to look like a drug addict, which he probably is too.

he kalled it. Shit he say it in like 10 songs. Not to mention wat the world never heard.

But I agree. No matter the portrayal if it’s in contract that I have final approval before the final edit is done then I want my fucking say so. This is business so they got sued.
