In case you haven’t heard, Sha Money XL was recently named Senior VP of A&R at Def Jam Records. Congrats! Sha talked to MTV about his new job and possibly bringing 50 and the Unit to the house Russell built.

“I spoke to Fif, to [his manager Chris] Lighty. I would love to see that there,” Sha admitted. “Banks has an amazing record right now, independently. If things work out, then yeah, I would love to see that happen. The beef stuff, I’m over. We at a certain point in life where we don’t even need that. We eat that. So I will let them speak for their own, but honestly, I would like to see a company continue to grow. And I think G-Unit is in a position — coming from an independent space — that can continue to do their thing. I would like to provide an opportunity for them to continue to grow.”

    Congrats to G-Unit, they doing Big that now… banks has #1 song in the country with 300K digital sold already…independently

  2. Post no billz says:

    And the plot thickens..

  3. bigfamily says:

    I can see L A getting fired and Chrs Lighty/ Sha Money running the house that Russell/Lyor built

  4. CantGetRight says:

    Im pretty sure at some point in the past 50 dissed Def Jam lol.
    And yeah Sha may be over the beef but no way you’re gonna put them on the same label as Ross & em and think nothin is gonna pop off.

  5. So Icy Boi! says:

    @E_ you mean he has the #1 song in New York not the country 300K downloads aint alot (not hating)

  6. E_ says:

    @So Icy Boi

    are u crazy ?…..”INDEPENDENTLY”……<— that's amazing.

  7. Young Sha says:

    Fif finna take over at Def Jam.

    Nas will be working for Fif :sadnas:

  8. Hah. says:

    YES finally. Hopefully he’ll get his monkey ass off of shady/aftermath.
    Any label the nigga goes on he will flop.

  9. chc says:

    maybe ross got wind of this, thats why he tagging on puff to help make a transition. either its gonna get ugly or dudes really proved they will do anything for a check these days (start corny beefs).

  10. GTFOH says:

    @Young Sha…50 is a joke the whole G-Unit! Nas is out of Def Jam this year…one solo album left!! You haters stay on Nas’ dick!

  11. E_ says:

    @GTFOH

    G-Unit Sold 50mil Record U Retarded Fuck

  12. Young Sha says:

    Lighten up, it was a joke. You on ur period nigga?

    I still think Fif wants that Live Nation deal. Only good thing about signign to Def Jam is that they promote the projects, where as Interscope drop the ball all the time.

  13. SERIOUSLY... says:

    Def Jam is really in the toilet.

  14. Young Sha says:

    ^

    YEah they’re not what they used to be.

    Atlantic is the label to be on IMO.

  15. GTFOH says:

    @E_ who gives a fuck what he sold he is still a fucking JOKE!!!!! Gimmick ass MONKEY!!!!!!!!

  16. CantGetRight says:

    ALL these major labels suck. None of them are good to be on. Ask sum of these rappers who are trapped in their contracts. Independent is the way to go

  17. CP3 says:

    All you silly ass blogers are stupid. you’re just a customer. Like a dope fiend, maybe even a tester. You know nothing of what you speak and never seen the inside of a record label office.

  18. Interscope Employee says:

    Sorry to say this, but I hope Banks signs with Def Jam. He wont get promoted here at Interscope
    Plus if SHA MONEY is VP over there, he’ll make sure Banks’ shit goes right

  19. john macabee says:

    ^ I agree the Scope is for AAA artist whereas Def Jam is geared toward A artist

  20. BK says:

    Looking at the last ten years or so you can really see how shady as a record label has killed the game. Roughly 100 million records sold worldwide is no fuckin joke. They have to have been the highest selling label in hip hop this past decade.

  21. Young Sha says:

    Looking at the number of records sold is fine, but what about the talent wasted at Aftermath/Shady? Numerous talented artist have sat there, with no end product.

    Interscope = Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Pea’s direction. Rappers wont last there for; no marketing dollars and promotion

  22. E_ says:

    @GTFOH

    Joke is Nas Right now…50 is a legend, while G-Unit is one of the greatest groups of all time…..its to late to hate.

  23. BK says:

    Talent at aftermath has been wasted because dre is notoriously slow for putting a project together but the only people that were signed and not put out an album at shady were stat quo and bobby creek. Cashis is supposedly putting one out this year. Even obie trice release two albums at shady, one platinum and one gold. I would hardly call two rappers numerous. I do agree though in terms of marketing def jam gets it done. I remember fif clowning on jay z when he was at def jam for using up all the marketing dollars when it was time to put out a project lol.

  24. jotty says:

    officer william n dj bubbleface kahled look out cant run now lol all dem overhyped flops yall produced…gunit clearin house…sha money loyal as fukkkkk to fif

  25. Bill Clinton says:

    @E_

    You say that like Nas isn’t a legend. 50 isn’t. He’s another Nelly.

    Nas is in rappers top 10 of all time.

    Stop fucking cock sucking stanning.

  26. E_ says:

    @Bill Clinton

    Only a hater won’t say Fif ain’t a legend…n why u mad ?….lol…e-thug

  27. Bill Clinton says:

    @E_

    Presenting an opinion isn’t e-thugging. E-thugging is making physical threats over the internet.
    And I’m not a hater. 50 made good music. Made. Past tense.
    You’re the one being a hater talking about Nas. Have you heard songs off Distant Relatives?
    Beats all that cliche ‘gangster’ shit 50 has put out in the past few years, regardless of if it sells or not.
    50 made it all about sales, which ultimately led him to ethering himself.
    And no. 50 isn’t isn’t a legend. He was a good artist at one point though.

  28. blaqscorpio says:

    LMFAO @ 50 being a “LEGEND”. WHERE?

  29. tony yayo is also one of my favorite artists. was he kidding?

  30. flawda says:

    Def Jam ain’t giving some irrelevant niggas no contract, they are heading to Kotch

  31. E_ says:

    @Bill Clinton
    @blaqscorpio

    Why 50 isn’t a legend……at least answer that ?…..cause I can write 2 pages long essay explaining why he is a legend n Top 10 of all time.

  32. BISD Def Jam says:

    Nas, Kanye West, Shyne, and Irv Gotti are all over at Def Jam. I wouldn’t turn Def Jam into the wackness that has been G-unit and run Nas and Kanye out of there. But Def Jam sucks at making decisions (poor management) so I wouldn’t be surprise if they do this.

  33. doughboi773 says:

    @E

    how is 50 a legend…because he made ONE dope album…..he hasnt progressed as an artists and he has no fan base anymore…GUNIT is done so it makes sense they sign to Def Jam…the house that gives shyne a 7 figure deal

  34. mistah_zee says:

    he had to say its not about the beef because its all about the beef. so much drama over @ def jam i cant see a guy liek fif making a move like that. but i did hear fif talkign in an interview a while back about running def jam and firing all his rivals over there lol. which again makes it all about beef

  35. TEFLON DON ! says:

    sooner or later LA Reid will be applying for unemployment benefits.

  36. Bill Clinton says:

    @E_

    He might be a legend to you, but to the vast majority he isn’t. He made 2 dope albums. Then he made hip-hop all about fake beef and sales. People are more in love with his image and antics then his music. Which is pathetic, because he’s suppose to be an artist first an foremost. When the most respected MCs give their top ten list, he’s excluded. That’s because he’s not a top 10 MC. Not to mention his hypocrisy. He talked shit about Kanye and Wayne for ‘stepping outside the box’, and now he want’s to take the same route and make an album with a euro-technoish sound? Lmao.
    He’s a great businessman, I’ll give him that. But I don’t give a fuck about his money. I care about the music.

  37. Chris says:

    I can see Banks getting a Def Jam one album deal like Big Boi but thats it. I dont see the whole G-Unit moving there. For starters, they wont be able to pull the leverage and little bullshit tatics that they did at Def Jam.
    So all that talk of 50 and Sha Money XL owning Nas, Ross, Kanye, Khaled (remember he’s like a exec of sorts there) doesnt fly.

    If anything he’ll be a fellow employee like th rest of them. Them Niggas gon have to get along, if that happens.

  38. JERZZZ says:

    G-Unit On Def Jam? Khaled and Ricky Better Watch they Fuckin mouths If them niggas step into the building that Jay/Khaled/ and L.A. Reid Fucked Up.

  39. Post no billz says:

    @JERZZZ.. that shit had me dying.. lol @ “the building that jay/khaled and la fucked up”

  40. MiloD says:

    G-unit baby……

    My buddy, my buddy
    Wherever I go, he go
    My buddy, my buddy
    You can run for your life I’ll stick ’em out the window
    My buddy, my buddy
    I lay your ass out mothafucka is simple
    Stay in your place I recommend or say hello to my little friend

  41. Nina says:

    How does LA still have a job? Lol Lawd will somebody just put this label out of its misery…Kanye can’t save this shit alone lol

  42. sam lombard says:

    Just under 2o days untill the long awaited “Distant Relatives”, count down the days with the web site Nas himself endorses on twitter
    Nas Web Site
    .

  43. E_ says:

    its should be obvious why robobawse appointed diddy as his manager,….its his last album with def jam n he gonna sign to bad boy, while lloyd banks & yayo will arrive to def jam & 50 cent will be appointed as a Prez.

  44. Rick Ross says:

    Check Mate.
    That munkee pulled a chess move on me.

    It’s all good though. Time for Noreaga to finally retrun that favor, or how am I gonna eat?

    BAWSE

  45. Oj Da Cornball says:

    Uh oh. 50 is son some stuff, boy. lol
    Dude be serious about his 48 law moves. lol

  46. DEFJAM new signee expectation lol :
    BANKS first !!
    then maybe 50
    third GUNIT
    then no yayo
    —————————

    come on Nas still will be on DEFJAM
    one album left but new contract
    he’s legendary. plus if he left he will return on Columbia so…
    but defjam needs this dude cuz hes the best lyricist of his generation & probably ever thus
    respect his gift homie

  47. etam*k says:

    Who cares where 50 lands?its over for GUnit..the only thing we *street dudes* respect about 50 is his hustle!his music is stale..Nas not a legend??are fucking kidding me?? B-dot you to put some of these clones on probation!!

  48. D_veto says:

    Only way G-unit going to Def Jam if that give them a Lebrons Nike contract money as a bonus. Plus independent is the best way to go now a days anyway. Really no need for third party hands in the cookie jar when the jar is busted on the bottom spilling the cookies on the floor. No need for a connect in music when G-Unit can supply it cut and pump it them selves.

    Rick Ross will be dropped anyway after his next coster drops and goes wood.

  49. Sutter Kane says:

    lol, poor shyne, as if his garbage music wasnt enough of a problem, now he’s got 50’s boy as the VP of his label………..Shynes shit is gonna get pushed back so far he’s gonna think he’s back in jail

  50. az5lyrics says:

    CURTIS IS FLOPPING ASS BITCH

    HOV THE G.O.A.T.
    ROC NATION IS THE GANG NOW

  51. illaDeuce says:

    you stan-face idiots on shadys nuts. Tryna say shadys some kinda top label. Are you retarded… the only guy getting money on shady is shady himself. SHADY RECORDS DIDNT SELL THAT MANY RECORDS WORLDWIDE ALONE! There were other labels involved with each album, and distribution deals with other companies!

    50 dug a hole where he cant fuck with any record label cus he will always have labelmates that dont fuck with his tough guy bully shit.

  52. E_ says:

    @illaDeuce

    You know G-unit about to take over in 2010 ?

    G-unit is the greatest Group of all time….ya i said it..

  53. Igot5onit says:

    50 will use up DJ’s marketing dollars to promote himself since Interscope is dropping the ball on his and his projects.

  54. E_ says:

    Sha Money XL is Fif’s right hand.
    I think G-Unit might take over Def Jam.

    Who wanna hear 50 Cent Feat Kanye West ?..lol…..that will be legendary.

  55. FBS says:

    @illaduece

    50 has sold about 25 million records
    Banks has sold about 5 million records
    Buck sold 3-4 million records
    Yayo even went platinum
    —————————————–
    Thats over 30 million records sold by people not named Eminem, sorry bra, you’re misinformed.

  56. Samsohn says:

    people think dipset or even wayne started running the game with mixtapes…but they’re all wrong…it was really 50 and those 30 g-unit radio mixtapes and countless others…consisten fire…50 and the unit >>

  57. Nipsyfire says:

    fif and ross fucking eachother in the buttocks in the def jam office lol

  58. […] Didn’t see this coming. According to DJ Big Mike, Sheek Louchiano has inked a solo deal with Def Jam Records. If true, Sheek now joins partner Jadakiss to the label. Get that paper. Is that you, Sha Money? […]
