RR Listening: Rick Ross “Deeper Than Rap” (Do It Live!)

alt

At Def Jam.

1. “Mafia Music”

That’s a hot one. Think you heard it. Ha!

“The rumors turn me on. I’m masturbatin’ at the top.”

2. “Maybach Music 2

A very good record coulda been a classic if the lyrical performances matched the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League beat of the year. I play the instrumental every day for motivation.

3. “Magniifcent”

Really liked it when it first came out. Stopped liking it for whatever reason. Diggin’ it again.

4. “Yacht Club” featuring Magazeen?

Some reggae chants. “Pussies don’t get pussy.” Yeah some Reggae hook style hook. Beat is cool but this ain’t grabbin me. “The fat Tommy Lee, I made out with like eight broads.” Second verse better than first. Can’t ride with chorus.

5. “Usual Suspects”

Nas joint. You already know. Produced by The Inkredibles for Nasty Beatmakers.

6. “All I Really Want”

Damn a lot of these songs have leaked already. Damn you LowKey. Ha! Video in Colombia coming soon. It’s cool to hear the joints properly mixed and mastered tho. Makes big difference. “All you need is me girl.” Real Ne-Yo. “All a nigga really want is you.” Very Terius.

7. “Rich Off Cocaine”

Willie Hutch sample? Let me find out. I just did. Ha! Another victory for the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. ones. Nelly’s boy Avery Storm on hook here. “Here I Am” was the jump off. “Lemons and honey/ Millions in money/ Gucci Louis Vuitton specifically homie/  My woman imported/ I’m never extorted/ I’m very important/ 20 grand for the mortgage.” Sweet!

8. “Lay Back” Feat. Robin Thicke (Woah!)

First track produced by The Runners (Did Ricky lose their number?). Alan’s kid is goin’ in. Swagger-like. He sounds like JT. Funny. Strip club beat. “If you came to get the party started.. ” Robin yodles. “Take off your clothes and lay back.” Dream ay’s at the end. Bizarre. Not wack tho. “Ayo Technology” Vol. 2. Ha!

9. “Murder Mami”

Fox Boogie joint that leaked yesterday. Inga owes dude big time. She don’t deserve this look. Favor for a favor. Beat ain’t bad by BIGG D but Marchaund’s wack juice spills. Reggae bridge at end. Not good. Too much Miami. Magazeen is reggae dude ruinin’ shit.

10.”Gunplay” Feat. Gunplay

“Run with me or run from me.” Ross’ most animated flow. His new artist Gunplay is on hook? Kinda lost on what’s goin on here. “Look Ted in the eye. It’s the end of the road.” Shout outs Brisco. This is a high-paced joint. DMX needs to be on this. Ha! Gun goes in on 3rd verse. He’s ahright but he sounds real.

11. “Bossy Lady” Feat Ne-Yo

Lookin’ for an “H.B.I.C.” Another one for the ladies but track got boom bap. Runners did it. “Your the Boss’ girl.” “She asks for head first so she gets it off the top.” GT goes to Nah Right discovers I’m live bloggin’. Stops the CD. Ha! We can work it out.

12. “Face” Feat Trina

“I fuck him once. I fuck him twice.” Dany’s favorite rap lady sounds a lil different. “I’m gettin’ face. I’m gettin’ face.” This is good money in them Southern strip clubs. “Number one nigga. You got excellent taste.” Drumma Boy on the beat. Hook over and over. Much better than Foxy duet. Trina only on hook and 4 bar flourishes? She sounds great in limited portions. Ha!

13. Valley of Death

Don’t see a featuring Wayne? We’ll see. Drums sounds diff to me than video version. Jabs at Curtis in verse one, as you know. Surprised by sample source here. “The word’s so cold. Hope you got a lil sweater.” Mentions Trick Daddy and Lupes.  “Bought my first Run DMC vinyl. My 2 Live Crew CD.” Addressin’ C.O. talk in third verse. “I remember prayin’ for a record deal.”

14. “In Cold Blood”

“Run with me or run from me.” “Pussies don’t get pussy.” Drops same mottos on intro to this. Runners. This track is hard body. This really is a strongly produced album. “50 you better watch it.” Menacing tough talk. Gabe T downloading new Internet Explorer so he can see what I’m writin’. Ha! Fades out abruptly.

“Cigar Music” Itunes Bonus

“I’m so compassionate with my compositions.” Ha! “Want to shine like Birdman teeth glitter.” “My loose cheese scoop up the Gucci.” Ross stepped his flow game up on this album. This shoulda made the album.

And yes, this is final tracklist. Watch your mouth in the comments. Ha!

Back to the Double R Mansion. I do it for hip-hop. One month in. I’m gonna win.

  5. YUP says:

I notice he had to leak half the album to draw interest cause his dis records was cutting it. it kinda work cause people are feelling his songs, but not me. Can’t hear all that front and lying in my ear.

  6. The Cloudkicker says:

Yoooooo ! Cigar Music is Rawse’s best full track to date ! When i say “full track” I mean everything is on point (beat, lyrics, flow, hook)

How’d it end up an iTunes bonus ? That’s a bad move fam !

    The beat is unstoppable !

    ^^

Sorry to break it to you fam, but 90% of rappers front and lie to you, make that 95%. I just enjoy the music for what it is. Ross is an idiot, but, his music as of late has been on point.

If I want to get the “real” I pick up the newspaper, read a book, or go to work everyday.

  8. hahaha says:

isnt avery storm featured on ‘Rich Off Cocaine’?

Mary J and Wayne are both on Valley of Death.

I thought MTV confirmed ‘Schindler’s List’.

And All Hip-HOp said he had a joint with Ryan Leslie.

  9. bigb23 says:

where is ‘schindler’s list’ and ‘diamonds and maybachs’

  10. OnPoint. says:

Where has Lauce been on point? Anywhere? … Holy macaroni, christ on a bike and the some.

  11. Damnn says:

If I want to get the “real” I pick up the newspaper, read a book, or go to work everyday.

Are you kidding me? you should know that the newspapers tell often lies and make false statements and 95% of the rappers aren´t fake. Em´s not fake, Dre´s not fake, Game´s not fake, 50´s not fake, Kanye´s not fake, Wayne´s not fake, soo say me who´s fake???

RICKY ROSS IS FUCKING FAT FAKE, and maybe because he is so fat he makes the 95% of hiphop.

  12. GSWILA says:

I am a fan of RAP since 1988 at age of 15, and to me rapmasters are those who happened to produce nice tracks and nice albums. In most case the first albums are the best albums for most of rap artists I have witnessed (excluding 2pac & Biggie as they were improving as days goes by). I don’t buy 50 cent albums these days because I was frustruated with the Massacre coz 2 me thats was not rap I knew & just to inform you massacre sold big number because of the achievement on Get rich or Die trying, If you are producing something for CBN, MTV or whatever its cool as its for the money but not 4 Rap. Rick Ross is trying to stick around Rap and 50 Cent is doing something else all 2gether HIP POP maybe. I dont mind buying a rap album regardless the name coz I wanna hear Rap.

  13. MIT says:

ross sounds the smae on every track.. not a big fan of this album…maybach music, rich off cocain, and nas track deff worth the dl.. all else is watever..

  14. John Lomax says:

being a fan of hip hop I have to say I was suprised that this album wuz this good consistent bangers and real a step up in lyrics for a southern artist like Ross not saying southern artist can’t flow but ross just put some old school flowing techniques on this album.

  15. Black Hayze DVD says:

Remember when artists used to do songs with hooks. I mean, of course, them singing it themselves. And they had 2 or 3 features.

Deeper Than Rap… 14 songs… I heard each and every song twice.

The only song with Ross on the hook alone, is #14 “In Cold Blood”.

On song #12 “Face ft. Trina”, Ross and Trina on the hook.

Only 3 songs without features on the entire album. If you get the bonus 15th song on (iTunes)…#15 Cigar music It has a feature and Ross not on the hook.

My question, if he sold more than anyone or everyone…., Would he be considered, one of the best???

    50=snitch?, Ross=c.o. & liar?, Wayne, Baby & Kanye=Gay?

  16. shahoda_q8 says:

DAMn..his look like kanye’s look in his new album..specially the flower 😛

    peace
