Sometimes I don’t know what to think about Lupe. At times I think he sells out to appease his white fan base, but other times he kicks knowledge to up lift black people. This song solidifies his pro black credibility. I appreciate the knowledge he kicked on this song to wake up the ignorant majority of black youth. To be completely honest, the only thing that kills this for me is the beat. I can’t personally stand Ross, not saying he a bad artist, I don’t spit dirt on anybody’s name (Well…maybe Waka, but that’s something else altogether) but I’m just not a fan of the guy and this beat irritates me so much that I can’t listen to it without wanting to break my fist on a wall because the original was just that damn stupid to me and every time I hear the beat, even though it may be somebody else on it, I can’t listen to the shit because it reminds me of why I don’t like the song in the first place. The lyrics hit hard, don’t get me wrong, but on some level, I agree that another flow would’ve been appreciated because at least then the relation to the original wouldn’t be so overbearing. I loved this version, but I wouldn’t put it on an MP3 player because it would get no play from me. I took the knowledge from it that it dropped and kept it pushing. Good shit Lu, I just wished you would have picked a different beat/flow for the track
