Rae and Ghost aren’t the only ones that don’t like a shark biter. Drake’s producer, Noah “40” Shebib tells VIBE in the Aug/Sept. issue that Ye cursed him out for “borrowing” his sound.
“I can’t even be mad at him,” says 40 [short for working 40 Days and 40 Nights…Noah’s ark, get it?) “Because the last CD I listened to before I started working on So Far Gone was 808s & Heartbreak.”
Ah, that explains it. But Yeezy doesn’t have to worry about 40 stepping on his toes. He’s only interested in working with two artists.
“At this point in time, the only rappers I have any interest in working with outside of Drake are Wayne and Jay,” 40 says flatly. “I think Drake has been so instrumental in creating that sound that I have a commitment to him. If he doesn’t want me to give it away, I won’t.”
I mean, Kanye’s production on 808’s was pretty much a genre all its own (and also he’s just, in general, been the most pervasively influential rapper/producer of the past decade.) so it’s only natural that people would splinter off from it. I really enjoy 40’s production. So yeah, Kanye made it, 40 took it, Kanye cursed him out for it, and now everyone can keep making fantastic music.

uh, sampling a record is not the same thing as stealing other people’s music. people who sample have distinct styles- like Dilla flipping a sample and Kanye flipping a sample are completely different. it’s still its own distinct form of expression, kanye used those samples to make his own style. 40 copping ye’s (non-soul loop) production style is different from ye using some drums to make a new style.

all 40 did was crossfade the beat. Everything but the drums had there ‘Highs’ and ‘Mids’ lowered. Producers know what I’m talking about. 40s signature is to just mute the beat and add reverb and echo his shit is saucy. From the game changing CD, to the undeniable classic that is LR, to the pop-culture classic Graduation (Stronger? Flashing Lights? Good Life? Good Morning? + beating out sales moster 50 in the beef everyone remembers), all the way down to 808’s and Heartbreak (give or take, but critically acclaimed and commercially successful, pretty amazing for a respected rapper going all auto-tune and making a pop album featuring nothing but singing, as said by Kanye himself).
He’s the guy who’s never satisfied. There’s people at the top, but I feel Kanye is the guy looking at the top, and finding the best way to break the glass and reach even higher than before. Look at how different each one of his albums were.
His impact is second to none in this decade. Without him, Drake, Cudi, Lupe, all wouldn’t have been signed. Do you people forget the impact made by Kanye repping gay people and when everyone started saying Kanye gay? And no not like ‘ya Gay people are cool’, but calling out other rappers and sh-t? He was the first non-gangster, that’s why he wouldn’t get signed. Once he got his chance, he proved everyone wrong. He broke down HUGE barriers in Rap.
Or the IMPACT made by wearing a pink polo with a LV bag? He single handidly changed fashion in Hip-Hop, and that’s just an addition on the impact his albums have made (the content + beats on them).
Add that to his production which is brilliant (many say he brought back soul sampling, and you can argue it), but the fact that he made these harmless beats on CD and stuff popular is phenomenal. He produced classic albums like The Blueprint, and Commons Be, and is STILL sh-tting out number 1 hits for artists (Drake’s biggest hit off his new album? Kanye produced, AND KANYE WROTE IT). So even though he has the skill the hit the top of the charts and play it safe, he chooses not too because he just feels the need to do more.
Add that to the fact that he’s been real 100% in this game. Remember when he threw a fit when he didn’t win best debut artist? Or he upstaged Justice when he didn’t win best video for Touch The Sky? Now when he was even more fans, and more to lost (nearing his fifth album), dude is still pulling those stunts. Call him childish, or whatever you want, but he’s always been real to himself in this game. Still the guy in the same clothes, same personality, same lyrics and representation, still that underdog who’s not stopping.
Add that to the fact he’s hit platinum a sh-t load of times, has got a billion hits, and produced a billion hits, more Grammy’s than ANY other rapper ever, and is placed seventh in most Grammy’s won by one artist, and he’s only been in this damn game for 6 years, (and more secondary awards as well). An album of the decade critique by EW, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and called The Most Influential Artist of the Decade by many places as well, both just named months ago, like wtf should I go on? His collabo’s with Coldplay, John Mayer, and his affection for Rock and Art that he posts on his blog. Everything about him is unique. Oh rap likes baggy clothes? Well I’ll wear my clothes tight! Oh rap doesn’t like soul beats? I’ll make my beats so good you’ll have to like em’. Oh, rap doesn’t like non-gangsters? Well I got the skill to make your life so exciting (fade away like in power). Like he CHANGED the game. His business statements (shoes with Nike and LV) like c’mon son! What other rapper can MAKE an album like 808’s and have two HUGE singles off it and a platinum selling record that critiqued super well? Kanye West, that’s who. He has his own label with superstars and platinum selling artists on it. I could go on and on and on.
He’s f-king killed Nas on a track, he’s killed Jay on a track, he’s killed Wayne on tracks, the man is a monster right now. He’s been improving his lyrics and he’s been killing it ever since. He still was number 1 for me with his above average lyrics, because it was about more than lyrics for me, but now it’s like he’s unstoppable.
That’s not even including his tours which are considered legendary. May I take you guys back to 2007/2008 when his latest creation, the Glow In The Dark tour came out? It’s known as one of the most CREATIVE tours in ever, and grossed I believe the MOST money that year out of concert sales.

Encore horrible but still had amazing songs on it…….Relapse to this date is his most lyrical and multisyllabic rhyming ever put together in one day..and Recovery was an amazing album (easily as good as The Eminem Show or better) and started putting Hip-Hop back to being dominant. Kanye has only one GREAT album which is Late Registration. Graduation was tight, I liked that he matured a lot on that album (Big Brother was my fav) but it still wasn’t as good as Late Registration.
