1.) You mean to tell me he can honestly offer an objective opinion about a guy who literally took millions out of his pocket? If 50 never gets put on, Ja Rule continues to croon for bitches and Irv Gotti makes money (and potentially remains relevant).

3.) Unfair to compare Eminem’s lead single in 2009 to Jay-Z’s lead single of 1999. Rap hasn’t changed any in 10 years? The audience to which artists cater hasn’t changed?
4.) Jay-Z may not release the same type of corny stuff as Eminem does, but he does release many a corny single. For instance, the lead single off his supposed Swan Song, The Black Album, was the Neptunes-produced “Change Clothes”.
Also, why is Irv Gotti talking about corny singles to begin with? Wasn’t he the mastermind behind classics such as “Put It On Me”, “Between Me & You”, and “Always On Time”?
5.) While the first singles may be wack (and I agree, they are), Eminem’s 2nd single is always dope. Always. “Guilty Conscience/Role Model”, “Stan/The Way I Am”, “Sing For The Moment/Cleaning Out My Closet”, “Mosh/Toy Soldiers/When I’m Gone”, + “Lose Yourself”. For every wack single Eminem has released, there’s 2 great ones he’s followed it up with. Just so happens that rap fans help the wack ones go to the top of the charts. Irv should know that better than anybody.

Eminem and Jay-Z are bot major succeccess in their own right but not to be compared by any means. It would be like comparing Frank Sinatra to Bruce Springstein. Different era different music. Jay-Z is not every other gangster rapper, his lyrics are sometimes underestimated due to the fact that people dont understand half of it cuz of its complexity.
In terms of skill, its an oppinion thing. In terms of succcess and status Ja-z kills Eminem. Eminem put out 2 classics and 2 mediocres and 2 barely legit albums ( the last two). He doesnt have much left in him. Jay-Z has dropped a classic almost year for year since 1996.

You cannot compare ANYONE to Jay-Z or Eminem, but I feel like Jay-z has longevity and thats where Eminem will fail. He attempts to cater to a teenage demographic and lately it has destroyed the quality of his music.

It’s true, according to VIBE he is the greatest rapper to alive (according to VIBE), but that perspective is determined by mass appeal and overall sales. Em’s influence is big, white kids are rapping, Asian, Black kids diggin his songs ect, he’s more acceptable because simply enough he’s white and that’s just the hard truth people. I’m from Detroit and I have mad live for Em. But Jays influence is absolutely massive, he is the true original hip hop story, he influence covers all cultures, races and groups, despite his skin color. Granted he’s not rolling off the tongue of the suburban Mom or Dad as easy as Em’s is but his influence has touched every rapper that tries to rap today in some way or form. And the mans lives by his words, and that’s evident by the incredible life he lives today.

Eminem ain’t a better lyricist than Jay, I’m sorry. Son is mad nice, but don’t let his technique fool u into thinking his content and wordplay are superior. Check Jay’s catalogue from ’95 to ’05. Sheeit, check out his wordplay on ‘Kingdom Come’. Jay’s versatility speaks volumes (don’t let the ‘surface’ cliches mask the depth of his work).
Em’s strength is his timing, humor, irony, and (especially) rhyming technique. He rattles off those couplets like water. Very dope. But there are guys like Pun, Elzhi, Nas, Royce, and Kool G Rap that have multi’s that are comparable to Em’s. Folks act like he owns that lane.
As far as other rappers talking about sex, bling, and material possessions, most black rappers who dont talk that dumb shit get stuck in the underground cause labels won’t sign them and media ignores them. Eminem gets passes in ways black rappers don’t. (I only mention this because I think its wack that things are set up this way and it makes Em look like he has such a higher level of thought than the other guys, but this is a skewed perspective).
And stop citing sales, people already have noted that his race is a BIG factor in his success. As a matter of consideration, thats probably why he got the most votes in the last poll (fanbase).
The entertainment industry caters to Eminem in ways that NO OTHER rapper has been courted. Ultimately, that’s some racial shit, hands down. I’m just keeping it real.
