I know this is long but it’s worth the read 4 sports fanatics (i.e. Me & anybody else that watches ESPN as religously as I)
First and foremost, you have brought up Rookie of the Years honors and how MJ did more than Kobe did in his first 15 or so seasons. MJ came out into the league after 2 years of college when he was 21 and had much more time to develop than Kobe did, when he came out when he was 18. Also, more importantly, Kobe has matured the older that he has gotten and is arguably has gotten better with age, even with the slight loss of athleticism and explosiveness. MJ was his best when he was younger while Kobe has steadily gotten a lot better. Kobe will have better end of career years than Jordan, that’s just another example of how they are different players (think Jordan w/Wizards).
And about the MVP’s. Yes MJ has more than he does, but you have to look at the MVP-caliber seasons that Kobe had. Kobe went through a period of time with his off the court issues and bad reputation, which was during some of his best years. The fact that Steve Nash won back to back MVP’s over Kobe while Kobe was scoring 81 pt games and averaging 30+ (almost 36 a game one season), can be attributed to the public pretty much hating on him during his prime seasons. Also, even this past season Kobe had an MVP-caliber season, but as you can see the better player doesn’t always get the MVP, but surely they show up in playoffs. The MVP is all about perception and hype, something Kobe hasn’t excelled in and something MJ revolutionized.
Mike was loved by everyone because he had the commercials, the shoes, and he revolutionized the game. Kobe is not revolutionizing the game but HE IS ON MJ’S LEVEL. The funny thing is that he’s not even close to being done. He’s is getting better ever year and I would be shocked if he doesn’t get another, let alone a couple more; not to mention being the game’s all-time scoring leader. Some of the arguments listed in the article are just plain stupid and it seems like someone is a little bitter that Kobe has shown that there can be another MJ. This is the truth, and
I love Michael (II), but Kobe is up there with him, and time will tell who really is the greatest ever.

Steve Nash led his team to the best record in the west in his first mvp year. The lakers didnt even make the playoffs. In Steves second year, the Suns finished 3rd in the west and the Lakers finished 7th.

Regarding your idea that Kobe is better than Jordan; Even if Kobe matches or surpasses Jordan in titles before he retires, Jordan will still have better numbers and more league MVP’s. Kobe will never win another league MVP.
