Um, smarten up Big Homie! Nas is actually right about that… The Genre is roughly 30 years old, and you have to see how well an artists entire catalog ages as time goes on. Reflect on these artists catalogs in another 20 years, and see how the music sounds! Nas has a great shot at earning that status, considering how ahead of time his music is… BIG was the same way! IMO there are only 3 artists at this point who could be in that GOAT conversation 1 day… Biggie, Nas & Hov… and I doubt there will be any forthcoming artists who are going to enter that conversation. There sure is hell aren’t any artists who have entered the game in the last 10-12 years who can be a part of that conversation.

The game is 37 years old !! If you were born when it started and still to this day follow Hip Hop and various emcees, you could have an opinion on who you feel could, can or is the GOAT basically because you’ve seen emcees start and falter throughout. Everyone has a different criteria for their standards. Just being the man when I started listening to you isn’t gonna cut it.

I’ve always said its hard to define a conclusive greatest of all time in hip hop like in other things.
For the longest people thought Rakim, then BIG, now Jay. Maybe people will think Lil Wayne in 5 years. But the genre is always changing and redefining himself
And I do think that last part about rappers still entering their seniority while rapping needs to be examined. We’re just seeing Nas, Jay, Common, Snoop, Raekwon, Ghostface, Eminem enter their late 30s and 40s still finding things to rap about and I would argue still thriving relativley well.

Hip hop, due to it’s fast paced nature, is not comprable to soul and R&B music. Jay has an enormous body of work. As does LL, who happens to the GOAT in opinion.
We know who’s in the debate of GOAT… Nobody, even if they are a fan, will put Nelly in that convo. And it’s not just a body of work, but impact too.
