Jay-Z Picks His Ultimate MC Cypher

Last night, I took the wife to the taping of Charlie Rose’s interview with Jay-Z. You know the drill: No cameras allowed. So I just chilled in my skybox even though I saw some fans sneak some iPhone footage. Gonna be interesting to see if they edit the talk down ’cause there were a few interesting exchanges. Rose pressed Hov on the Un Rivera stabbing, Jay checked him on his pronouncement of 2-Pack, and Mr. Carter lamented lettin’ his wife […]

Jay-Z On Juan Epstein

Photo: igerren Looks like Hov’s on a full press day to push Decoded and thankfully, for you hip-hop heads, he stopped by the Hot 97 Morning Show. Cipha and Rosenberg got to grill him on a garden variety of rap geek topics for their podcast. Grab an afternoon snack and dig in.

Jay Electronica Roc Nation Coronation

Jay Elect: Permission to speak freely, sir? Hov: Go. Go, baby. Let it go! Here’s the best footage you’ll see of Elect’s signing party at The Box on Friday night. “The Announcement” up top and “Dear Moleskine,” “Exhibit A,” “Exhbit C” and a Roc sign exchange from the stage.

New Music: Drake “Same Mistakes”

Like we always do at this time: Here’s the third release off Rap Radar’s Mixtape Of The Year. The Internets demanded it and we delivered: The full original Drake reference demo for Mr. Foxx’s “Fall For Your Type”. Pardon me, Jamie. Sorry, Drizzy. Got to give the people what they want. Previously: “Joell Christopher” & “The Ghetto (Remix)”

J.Cole Performance & Rehearsal (D.C.)

Light-skinned Jermaine stayed on his show grind with a new addition, DJ Dummy for a gig at Mansion in our Nation’s Capital this past Saturday. Here he runs through his two singles and gets a strong response from the Howard Homecoming crowd. Also thrown in, some rehearsal footage of “Higher” and “It Won’t Be Long”. Off camera, Cole assured me that there is a mixtape on the way sooner than you think. Stay tuned!

Best-Selling Author Cosigns Jay-Z Decoded

Have you seen a galley of Jay-Z’s new book? Me neither. But an unlikely source has and is givin’ it the thumbs up. Kathleen Norris is an acclaimed poet who wrote the best-selling book, The Cloister Walk. Christian spirituality is her beat, but she connected with the 336 page tome. I’ll let her tell it after the jump. fb
