GZA Performance In Brooklyn

As stated earlier, Mr. West wasn’t the only surprise guest A-Trak had planned for his Fool’s Gold party at the Brooklyn Bowl. Witness the Wu Swordsman run through the title track from his classic second album and his tribute to ODB below. Clan in da front—forever.

Kanye West Performance In Brooklyn

CyHi took his leave and all hell broke loose as BK Bowl turned into Kanye West concert. Watch the soon-to-be crowned Hottest MC in the game (Yeah I said it) run through a couple of selections confirmed for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. A monstrous performance!

CyHi Da Prynce Brings Out Kanye In BK

Sway might’ve ruined the surprise, but not the moment. In support of his G.O.O.D. Music artist, CyHi and his old tour DJ A-Trak, Kanye took over the Pitchfork-sponsored showcase at Brooklyn Bowl last night. Watch the duo run through “So Appalled” and look for mo’ footage from Mr. West and another surprise guest, The GZA later in the day.

Jay-Z Reflects On “Big Pimpin'” Verse

Although “Big Pimpin’” was the first song highlighted in Jay-Z’s Decoded ad campaign with Bing, he admits to WSJ that the song is not his proudest lyrical moment. It’s Ok, Mr. Carter. Some [lyrics] become really profound when you see them in writing. Not “Big Pimpin.” That’s the exception. It was like, I can’t believe I said that. And kept saying it. What kind of animal would say this sort of thing? Reading it is really harsh. Ha! Peep an […]

New Music: CNN “My Alias”

Just Blaze took over the airwaves while overseas last night and, of course, he let some of his unreleased nuggets go. No rips of a new Freeway joint called “Early” and Joe Budden’s verse from that Em/Slaughterhouse collab yet, but we do have the last joint he played, an unreleased heatrock from my dudes from Queens. Look for a full download soon. Fingers crossed. dunnyy

MTV’s Hottest MCs Debate At Rap Radar Mansion

[vodpod id=Video.4713872&w=425&h=350&fv=autoplay%3Dfalse%26amp%3Blocale%3Den_US] My dude Shaheem Reid, who recently left MTV News as the Hip Hop Editor, stopped by the RR Mansion yesterday to discuss this year’s controversial Hottest MCs List. B.Dot and I picked his brain about the reasoning behind the absence of Em from last year’s list and we attempt to put our own lists together of who we think is rockin’ the mike right in 2010. Pardon the technical difficulties in the first seven minutes and enjoy a […]

T.I. Gets Axed From AXE

TMZ who are steady on “Kang Watch”, reported late last night that AXE body spray is considering separating themselves from the troubled rap star. What, a lil’ X in the whip is bad for their brand? Ha! Oh well, business is business and money is money. We’ll keep you posted if this becomes official. UPDATE: One month and 10 days later, it’s official. TMZ’s got the scoop here.

YN Interview (Combat Jack Radio Show)

Late last Thursday I was the special guest of Combat Jack’s PNC Radio show and, honestly, he and Dallas Penn grilled me with a gang of questions about the past, present and future. I think this is one of the best interviews I’ve ever given and I hope you take the time to listen to the excellent and exhaustive conversation. Hey, it’s the weekend, what the fuck else you got to do? Ha!

New Music: Freddie Gibbs Ft. Sean Price & Tek “The Ghetto (Remix)”

Once again, it’s on. Here’s the second release off Rap Radar’s The Mixtape Of The Year. On the remix to his strong single, Gangsta Gibbs gets grimey with some heavyweight assistance from the homies of Duck Down. It gets no more underground than this. Get your mean mug on. Props to Green Lantern and DJ Drama. Cuttin’, scratchin’, and drops? Stop your bloodclot cryin’. Ha! Previously: “Joell Christopher”

Black Rob Signs With Duck Down

It appears Diddy’s loss is Dru Ha’s gain, as Black Rob has inked up with Duck Down Records. In a statement, BR explains why he signed with the label: “If I’m going independent why not go with a team I respect, and they have always had a true family setting & environment.” Banco’s third album, Game Tested & Street Approved drops next year and will feature production from from Buckwild, Scram Jones and Pete Rock.

T.I. Helps Rescue Suicidal Jumper

Although T.I.’s due in court this Friday to deal with his own legal drama, he took some time this afternoon to assist the authorities in rescuing a man who was threatening to jump off a downtown Atlanta building. Call me skeptical but this shit is crazy. TMZ has the details: It all went down earlier this afternoon — when cops responded to a 911 call about a man who was threatening to jump off a building in downtown Atlanta … […]

BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher: Ice Cube, Rev. Run & Sons

[vodpod id=Video.4663265&w=425&h=350&fv=configParams%3Dord%253D349520321469754000%2526tile%253D2%2526reportDartNValue%253Dhha10_video_showcypher%2526reportDartSubValue%253Dhiphopawards10%2526reportDartZone%253D%2526reportPropSubSection%253Dhiphopawards10%2526reportPropSeason%253D%2526reportPropPageName%253D] Ok, I said we were only gonna share one thing from the Anti-Climatic Awards last night but B.Dot insisted. So did Charlamagne.  Nice to see two hall of famers, Cube and Run and their children get busy on some pass the mic shit. Pardon the Rev for recycling a verse from well over a decade ago. I actually taped the clip below when I was 16 or 17. Sometimes it pays to be an old head. Ha! I […]

Mary J. Blige x Swizz Beatz “Fancy” (Original Version)

So I was inspecting my Drake CD packaging today (you get to when you actually purchase music) and noticed an additional vocals credit to Mary J. Blige on TML‘s track 7. Not covered in the otherwise extensive and excellent making of piece in Complex (NCB and the crew are focused daily), was that apparently Swizzie offered the Queen this track first. Hmm. Anyways, I think with 40’s breakdown added to it, this song ended up where it needed be. No […]
