High Standards.

Despite his best intentions, Ab’s third album fell short of connecting to his audience the way his previous release, Control System did.—EW

Damn, I really liked this album. It wasn’t perfect but had a lot of dope songs. If anything, the main problem was that it was too long, but I cut a few of the weaker tracks and now think it flows really well. I can understand why some people don’t like the album, but Hood Billionaire should definitely be in this slot instead.

    1. Lets be real were you really checking for Hood Billionaire tho, it is rick ross second album in one year it was his throwaway songs. It is not worthy to be in this list. Master Mind was dope tho.

    2. kudahfee says:

Hood billionaire was not that bad at all, family ties, brimstone, coke like the 80, phone tap, trap luv, hood billionaire, quintessential, nickel rock super dope ass songs. Yes there was a lot of filler but even those songs where tolerable. As much as niggas shitted on this album it did not end up on nobody’s most disappointed list.

      1. ITS ME says:

  7. polopolo1 says:

The problem was we waited so long for an album, and this just wasn’t up to par, I try to cut him a break though, maybe he was just burnt out from workin on that “Jameson” album that might never come out. I could see how that could be emotionally stressful

  8. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

  12. kudahfee says:

  13. blackbeltbreeze says:

it’s funny how top dawg was willing to take the L with this release. he saw his artist and his artist’s fans were getting emotional about the album not being released, so he said ok, since you know better than me, here you go. i can’t lie, i like the sincerity of the album, but i wanted it to have more bangers that give you that chest impact. he had alot of thought provoking stuff, but it was missing that dark but hopeful emotion, prophetic energy, and bar after bar delivery soul brings with him. maybe that’s just not where he was when he made it. that “ride slow” tho!!

  14. whipp says:

    lol i enjoy this album

  19. mike h says:

They got this one right. Shoulda been an ep.

  20. Dean says:

Yall are fucking wild. This shit was top 10 best of 2014. It failed to connect with his audience the way control system did? Stop judging art by other art. Judge art by the art. Not the by the artist, not by their last piece of art, not by their religion, or race, or height, or weight. Judge art by the art. Album is called These Days. Ab himself said in several interviews the album was suppose to represent these days that we are living in. The current state of hip-hop. I think he did a pretty good job of that. He showed a lot of different corners of the game. Did you hear the track with Ross? I don’t even like Ross and that shit was hot. Did you hear the track with Lupe? Did you hear the 17+ min battle at the end with Daylyt? For God’s sake did you hear the opening track?

    Judge art by the art.

And all you fucks in the comments saying this album wasnt good, give that shit another listen, Ab-soul at his Ab-soul-iest and I think thats what we should expect from him

  21. Crispin1666 says:

It seems that everyone is judging him by the sound of his music, rather than the message and what he is trying to convey, I urge you to judge his music in an artistic sense. Ab is making fun of other artist who make music for the money and have no formidable lyrical conent, for example, asap ferg, yung thug, wiz khalifa, which it in turn is what people love to hear ‘these days’. No offense to the previously named artists, they’re doing their thing, but their lyrics have no depth or impression other than telling you they sell/smoke drugs, get pussy, shoot guns, by excessive nonsense, or drake when he lies and tells you he ‘started from the bottom’, etc. I’m not hating on anyone, but Ab Soul’s intellect is incredible, and unmatched by many. I encourage you to look up interviews with Ab Soul to see why he’s doing what he’s doing, rather than assuming. Again, you do you, if you hate someone without knowing the facts beforehand, it says more about you than anyone else.
