Business As Usual
If there were a secret to success, Cortez Bryant probably has the answers. As a member of the Maverick management firm, Tez has branded the careers of hip-hop superstars of Drake, Nicki Minaj, G-Eazy and childhood friend Lil Wayne. More recently, he saw the release of Weezy’s memoir, Gone Til November. Here, Tez details the financial fiasco behind Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records, Birdman’s business practices, Weezys rise, G-Eazy, Tyga and more. Subscribe on iTunes.

Meanwhile they sitting there hating……
Cool interview. Sounds like Baby not trying to jerk nobody he just bad with money. The strange thing on his part is why wouldn’t he just let Wayne put the album out and move on. He gave him 20 productive years. Im curious what Slim’s role is in the whole situation. Baby could just be the fall guy because he is the face of the label.
Amazing episode.
Wayne is such a major Hip Hop/Pop star that sometimes you don’t realize how much mystic there actually is about his process or the YM teams process, so this was a great episode. Cortez spoke so openly and you guys got some good info out of him.
And that formula Cortez is talking about with regards to releasing core(urban)/up tempo(pop) records. I been told my friends they was doing that shit so strategically and it was guaranteed to work. Like Elliot mentioned, like A side and B side records. It’s great to know Gee Roberson gave Cortez that game and he been using it, that makes sense.
Salute. I just hope the music isn’t stale by the time we hear it
free C5
