Rakim is a living legend. Unfortunately, his comeback offering The Seventh Seal doesn’t compliment his lauded status. Purists will probably disagree, but the LP is packaged in bad production (“Satisfaction Guranteed”, “Put It All To Music”) and poor execution (“Dedicated”, “Still In Love”). Elsewhere, he sounds out of touch (“How To Emcee”) and completely out of place ( “Psychic Love”). Clearly, Rakim is still a microphone fiend. However, now would be a good time to consider rehab. We expect more from […]

Taking the crown as the best single of 2009, is Drake’s “Best I Ever Had.” Before becoming a radio staple and the root of his $2 million deal, the track appeared on his mixtape, So Far Gone. With wingman Boi-1da on the boards, Drizzy tapped into a forgotten fanbase: The ladies. In a charmful baritone, he warmed hearts with cozy lines like, “Sweat pants, hair tied/ Chillin’ with no make-up on/ That’s when you’re the prettiest, I hope that you […]

For every game missed, Agent Zero loses $147,208. Here’s what the former All Star said in statement: “As I have said before, I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids. I brought them without […]

Before the Birdman swooped in and saved him with a CM contract, Shad spent last spring reuniting with JD and droppin’ another brick. Why was Bow Wow sixth album such a flop? Well besides the TLC “Baby-Baby-Baby” bounce of the strong lead single “You Can Get It All” there’s nothing here memorable or bumpable. A record with Ron Browz and Nelly (“What They Call Me (Big Time)”, more Auto-Tune with T-Pain (“She’s My”) and do we really wanna hear about […]

The day the earth stood still was on June 5, 2009. Before the stroke of midnight, millions were tuned in to hear Mr. Cee and Funkmaster Flex premiere Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” on NY’s Hot 97.  From Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine, fans rejoiced after hearing Hov’s deathblow on top of NO I.D.’s schizophrenic track. Sssh, moment of silence. Before: RR’s ’09 Best Singles: #3 Jamie Foxx “Blame It”
