Along with Donna Summer and The Marvelettes, N.W.A. and Public Enemy have been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Ceremony takes place at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre on April 13. It’s been over two years since word got out about the N.W.A bio-pic. John Singleton was rumored to direct, but nothing ever materialized. Nine months later, F. Gary Gray is steering the ship and tweeted the name of the movie for an open casting. If it weren’t for the age requirement, Elliott would be a shoo-in for DJ Yella.

The N.W.A. film has been in talks for quite sometime. Recently, director John Singleton told The Playlist he’s in talks with reuniting with Ice Cube to direct the flick and that New Line is interested. “I can’t talk too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story… The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.” tlf
