Def Jam 25: Jay-Z “The Blueprint”
Monday, October 05 2009 4:50 PM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Blog, True StoryNext Tuesday, VH1 will celebrate Def Jam’s 25th anniversary with a special edition of Hip Hop Honors. All week long, we’ll commemorate the label with print ads from the past decade. And what better way to kick things off then with Hov’s classic, The Blueprint. I’d bet my bottom dollar the original title was The Ghostwriter.
When the album dropped, I was reluctant to listen. At the time, Nasir had my ear. Eventually, I put biases’ aside and was captivated by the production and Jay’s wizardry. I still feel “Lyrical Exercise” doesn’t get enough cred. Eight years and two sequels later, The Blueprint still serves as one of the game’s best templates.

Man, miss me with the fake Jay and B quotes already. Headlines. Some of you sites will do anything for attention and traffic. You really believed B would speak to Star magazine? Tuck your tabloid in. And why would Hov need to write a letter to his daughter? Bitch please. He wrote a song! It's called "Glory" and it's pretty fuckin' revealing. He went on the record (double entendre) but you still don't get it. You may hear baby Blue's first cries but no you don't know her height, weight or what she looks like. And no you ain't gettin' a flick, fool. Can new parents get some privacy? Even if they are celebrities. Sheesh! Who raised you animals? Party at the 40/40. Paps outside. Rushin' the velvet rope. Don't trip over your integrity.
Put us here if you like. The RR store stays open 24/7. SOPA? Yeah we Showcase Our Product Always. And we're gonna continue straight ahead til somebody up there turns out the lights. Start from scratch? I'm not afraid.
September 11th, 2001, I was in my 3rd year in college. Left my first class and went to the store before my next just in time for the store to open and copped. It was my next class is when I first heard about the tragic incidents that took place that day.
Blueprint is a classic. Cosigns “Lyrical Exercise”. That track along with “All I Need” “Never Change” were my favorites. Too many to name actually.
