RR’s ’09 Best Mixtapes: #7 50 Cent “Forever King”

Originally conceived as a sequel to the spectacular Sincerely Yours, Southside, 50 adds his magic touch to some mo’ R&B classics. This time it’s ’90s bangers that get the takeover treatment. He makes it clear that “success is his addiction” on Gina Thompson’s “The Things That You Do”; counts his stacks over Horace Brown’s “One For The Money” and is lookin’ for a ride-or-die chick to the sounds of Intro’s “Funny How Time Flies”. But instead of sticking to the script, 50 switches the style up with hardcore heat like the Wu-Tang sampled “I’m Paranoid” and his toe-to-toe showdown with B.I.G. (“Suicide Watch”). Yup, it was last summer when, with a lil help from The Finisher Mister Cee, the pioneer of the mixtape market proved he could still feed the streets.

  7. My Nig Hussle says:

good mixtape I still think Jada and Nipsey mixtapes were better but not mad at this

  8. ihateHATERS says:

50 had two of the best mixtapes of the year and two of the most played from me.. im still playing bisd too.. good year for fif music wise except the sales but no one really sold well in hiphop last year exclude, em and jay, but because of his previous sales it a fail for him but i think his haters are starting to come around…

  9. billyGoat says:

plz RR drake did not have the best mixtape of 2009

  10. Rhyme says:

Great tape, tho “War Angel” is better because it’s all original content. No jacking beats and running with the format already set IE “No Ceilings”, which was another great tape by the way.

  11. Oj Da Cornball says:

Oh wow, I already predict Rap Radar giving Drake best mixtape of the year.
Rap Radar joined the payroll of the “big Jew machine”, team Drake.
So expect Drake to have top mixtape of the year.

  12. THUNDERKUSH says:

@ OJ Da Cornball – ” Rap Radar joined the payroll of the “big Jew machine”, team Drake.”

    #GetTheFuckOuttaHereWithThatBullshit

big jew machine? are u fkn kidding me? what does religion have anything to do with drizzy’s talent?…. NOTHING… stop tryign to make this an issue of race/relgion. GROW THE FUCK UP.

Drake spits better than most of these half ass, fake persona rappers. He spits about real shit and not about the usual played out subject matter that has become second nature in hip hop. dude is a breath of fresh air, whether you want to recognize it or not. 2 Grammy nods off of a mixtape? come on. I understand it’s REALLY easy to be jealous of somebody and hate, but you gotta give it up to this guy.

  13. yaboitone says:

@THUNDERKUSH: Damn man. Sometimes it’s better not to speak at all. That way noone becomes aware of how ignorant you are. He’s not making it a matter of religion dummy. The “big jew machine” is THE ENTIRE MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. Lol. Jay-z, 50cent, Puff Daddy, and Russell Simmons don’t run this shit…..JEWS do. These are the bosses of those so called bosses. Not opinion. Not conspiracy. Just facts. lol.
With that being said, Drake and his roots are Jewish so he has the most POWERFUL support of ANYBODY else doin this shit…HENCE his incredible out of nowhere super amazing UNJUSTIFIED ALMOST INSTANT rise to success and popularity. Yes he’s talented. Obviously. But not talented enough to warrant what he did. The BIG JEWISH MACHINE that are the board rooms and real bosses made this happen.

  14. Interscope Employee says:

50 dropped 2 solid mixtapes this year

Drake’s mixtape put him where he is today, but not the best of 09

J.Cole’s WARM UP = mixtape of the year

  15. My Nig Hussle says:

“Drake spits better than most of these half ass, fake persona rappers. He spits about real shit and not about the usual played out subject matter that has become second nature in hip hop”

^^^Thats one reason why people don’t like dude.He spits the same bullshit as every other mainstream rapper and niggas front like he the second coming of Nas

  16. THUNDERKUSH says:

    @ yaboitone

I’m sorry but I didn’t get the memo about all the big wig jewish heads of the music industry force feeding digital downloads of so far gone into people’s computers. SO FAR GONE is the reason for Drake’s success. And one of the reasons for that was the co-sign from Wayne. The reason for that is because Wayne WAS GENUINELY INTERESTED IN DRAKE’S TALENT and flew him out to meet him and tour with him after hearing his previous work

Given- I’m sure Drake knew some people that knew some people form his previous stint in the entertainment business, that allowed him to get his music into the hands of Wayne’s people, but that DOES NOT mean that it had anything to do with any other “jewish music industry execs”.

SO FAR GONE was spread the real grassroots way. When Drizzy went on his US college tour EVERYBODY knew the words to the songs!!!! did the big jewish execs pay those people off? NO. Let’s get real here. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with it.

  17. carter says:

“i’m paranoid” alone should be the joint that makes that mixtape the numba 1 of this year.

  18. […] Before: RR’s ‘09 Best Mixtapes: #7 50 Cent Forever King […]

  19. Zach says:

Straigth Fire, I love 50’s whole catalog (Curtis I coud of did without) for the most part, he’s the only rapper who’s mixtapes I will consistently bump and thats sad seeing as theres a entire galaxy of dudes who qualify as just mixtape rapper and have no other way of showcasing their skills. But away from that 50’s flow on Funny How Time Flies, I’m Paranoid, Respect It Or Check It and the MJ Freestye was damn near impeccible. Not to mention, WAR ANGEL was absolutely crack aso.

“50 bars of pleasure, 50 bars of pain, when Im dead and gone..n1ggas gone remember my name, 50 – Curt

  20. khal says:

“i’m paranoid, bitch i can’t sleep…” that was on repeat for a while.

  21. joe camel ! says:

this deserved to be in the top 5 mixtape of 2009

  22. bLUEPRINTs says:

    Dope MixTape.

@THUNDERKUSH- Homie what WheelChair Jimmy Shit Have you been listening to?

Cause that nigga is a Wayne clone. Not 1 original word from his mouth, he borrowed waynes flow, That wayne prettty much stole from Gillie.
And its not hate thats just fact.

  23. cat says:

    GARBAGE.

    Nuff said.

  24. THUNDERKUSH says:

    @ bLUEPRINTs

There’s no such thing as “original flow” my friend. Originality is and over-rated and over-used term. Originality is simply borrowing a concept that works and making it your by by adding your own spin on and your own flavor to it. You can’t grill an artist because he’s improving an already working formula, besides Drake offers more “honest” and “genuine” content than most artists out there. Just cuz u dont fuck with it doesn’t take away any credibility from it. #Truth

  25. bLUEPRINTs says:

    @THUNDERKUSH
Originality Is What Sets True Artists Apart.
And On Top Of That, Theres Nothing Honest Or Genuine About Anything WheelChair Jimmy’s Done.
He Raps Like Wayne, And Spits The Same Content(When Waynes Not Tryna Be A Gangster). He’s All over Autotune, And His Bars Arent Even Fire.
Haha I May Just Be Bitter That Hip Hop Has Evolved Into Copy Cat Hip-Pop, No Lyrics Bangin Beats Autotune And Fly Bitches(<—Can't Be Mad At That Part Though).

  26. fukc says:

yo… Dj Pain … why you mad …? That tape was fuckin crazy. better than alot of albums that came out in 09… including 50’s

  27. Brooksie says:

I heard this mixtape for the first time today…..very interesting.

  28. yaboitone says:

@THUNDERKUSH: your still an idiot. You can take A MILLION artists who are MORE talented than Drake
    -Who ACTUALLY have stage presence.
    -Who ACTUALLY have character.
    -Who are ACTUALLY interesting.
-Who DON’T look like a complete ass in every photo opp.

and CREATE the force that has been Drake as long as you have THE RIGHT PEOPLE FORCING you down people’s throats. Its ALL ABOUT who you know NOT what you know dumbass. It’s also about SPINS, PROMOTION, AFFILIATION, NAME DROPPING, ETC.

This is where the REAL BIG WIGS that WANTED Drake to succeed come in. That fucking mixtape wasn’t so ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY MIND BOGGLING AND NEW that it PROPELLED Drake to these heights. The FORCED HYPE, PROMOTION, ETC. is what did it ignoramus. SURE he is ACTUALLY talented so it would be hard to argue that the tape isn’t great or whatever, but the fact remains that Drake was CREATED by these people and not the result of some incredible new talent that is so out of this world that it warrants what he has accomplished. You are an absolutely oblivious moron to believe that.

  29. yaboitone says:

…and for God’s sake (no pun intended), stop automatically associating the Jewish references with religion you idiot? You MAY want to figure out what the term means before you reduce it to JUST a religious group?

    Further proving your ignorance.

  30. roYalFlusH says:

    @ yaboitone

    RANT MUCH????

sounds to me like you’re personal disdain for Drake has allowed you to rationalize this elaborate story about how drake’s career was hand crafted for the masses to eat up by “the machine”. Drake’s promotion was based on the same formula as any other artists get. His popularity had little to nothing to do with the executives, because his popularity, solely based off of “So Far Gone” is what got their attention in the first place!!!! claiming drake was created is an ignorant statement on your part. A lot of people clearly relate and connect to his music, and you obviously dont. save your opinion for someone that cares, or better yet go do the research before you open your mouth.

sidenote – the jewish reference does infer religious affiliation you tool, just like when you call somebody “christian” or “buddhist” it implies religious affiliation. You need to get off your high horse and stick your ego in your ass before you try to kick knowledge.

  31. Frenzy10 says:

I Cant Believe War Angel Didn’t Make This List. Cream 2009, I Line Niggas, Talking In Codes? Are They Not The Tracks That Kept 50 Relevent In The Industry And More Importantly In The Hood Before BISD Came Out. Niggas Know Nothing About Hip Hop These Days. Elliot You Hater, Get Your Game Right Nigga. SMH

  32. Sin says:
