Real talk, nothing came up for me. And I know he was certified gold. This is true. However, 500k United States citizens failed to purchase it, only about 370k did. They awarded him the plaque because that’s what the record company shipped out. It’s the same with Rihanna and the platinum plaque. They awarding her based off of projections. I disagree with both these decisions as I believe you shouldn’t get rewarded until the accomplishment is actually made. If there projected to sell it, then that’s cool, but you should wait to get the trophy until the requirements are actually completed.

And I never understand how people can criticize someone for leaving a negative comment. Just a general dislike. And most people would easily push the dislike aside in order to have another interesting life experience. If you recall 50 tried to discredit every other artist who he felt had sales that weren’t up to par. Nas is a phenomenal MC, yet 50 wanted to look past that and directly at the sales, as if it’s associated to talent.
Perhaps his fans were offended by that comment and are now taking advantage of the opportunity to have the last laugh. I personally see nothing wrong with that.
And yeah I forgot that Nelly sold more then him domestically this decade. Yet nobody ever talks about him. Not that sales represent talent or quality of music, but it does equal popularity. And the numbers show that 50′s is declining. Partially as a result of the comments and other ones like it he made about Nas and other MCs. Not every 50 fan is just a 50 fan, and he isolates himself by making stupid remarks as such.
Consistency is everything. And so far the only MCs (that aren’t deceased) that have been capable of standing the true test of time are Nas, Jay-z, and Eminem.

If everyone really wants to look at the numbers like 50 used to before BISD failed to sell like his previous offerings, take a look at that the rate at which certain artists declined in their record sales. Nelly sold millions of records but couldn’t sell 250K if he dropped now to save his life cuz no one is checking for him. At the end of the day, when you’re no longer a fad or a passing trend that the general public takes in for a few months the real hip hop fans decide if you get to stay around as long as Nas & Jay. The less you say when you’re not on the mic the better and I think 50 is learning that this time around. Nas is king of dropping an album that speaks so loudly that he doesn’t have to be seen for the following 2 years and thats the key to his longevity and consistency. Nas has been going platinum plus (double was the most he’s done) since 1996 and now given the environment he’s doing gold fresh out the gate on his last 2 albums with barely any promotion, just word of mouth and just critical acclaim. Niggas just need to focus on the music and nothing else and if you’re really as nice as you think you are or if every album you put out that you put out is really a “classic” like you swear it is the people will crown it that. Maybe its a formula that no one can put their finger on, its hard to explain the people’s connection to Nas & Jay, they’re almost myths and they’ve been doing it for so long they could never “fall off”.

you can’t be serious ma nigga, “Reasonable Doubt” was released in 1996 certified Plat (in 2002) ,
“My Life Vol.1″ was released in 1997 certified Plat (In 2000) , “American Gangster” released in 2007 certified plat (in 2009) , “Best Of Both Worlds” & “Unfinished Business” With R.Kelly Went Gold Within a year release, however was certified Plat as the years went by.
In addition, let’s not forget, “Before I Self Destruct” is a street album which is full with grimy tracks & only contains 2-3 radio song <— true definition of gangster rap album. Unlike BP3 which 1st of all was a compilation album, had almost every artist possible there is on every track, it was a Pop compilation album (you can't deny It). BP3 was made by jay-z and the collaboration with those pop artist to stay relevant not because he respected those artist..
Interscope records plants on re-releasing "Before I Self Destruct" so the album will sell over 1mil mark later this year.
Sorry haters, but this album is a classic, and deserves the Plat plague & Re-release.
