  9. Old Skool says:

@young 23 – Brotjer, this music is not for you, you’re too young and immature to understand the plights and struggles that took place before you were born; your understanding of life and intellectual capital is rendered through your expressive lexical. I am certain your extra-ordinary measure of intelligence will get you far in life, maybe even land you a good job in a nice correctional facility. Stay with JZ and allow us adults who understand the essential beauty of ‘real’ music and it’s universal affect on those who have a true ear for it’s nature. Anybody and scream nursery rhymes in a mike and call it art, however their are very few who can bring peace to a nation based solely on the artistic resonance of that ‘gift’ called voice. Now pull up your pants’, put a belt on, clean up your ability to articulate a thought by using genuine English and have a beautiful day.

  10. 70s/80s child says:

Wow!!! Old Skool….. you really hit it on the nail! Especially the part about pulling up one’s pants and expressing oneself articulately which is lacking these days in our community. I am Hispanic, grew up in the Bronx in the early 80s and grew up listening to Sade and REAL MUSIC. I got made fun of because I loved speaking proper English (“why you is speaking like a white guy”) and didn’t succumb to rap music and how it demeans our women and other minorities, including our gay brothers and sisters; not to mention its just talentless and unoriginal. I just didn’t take the taunts personally and today I am grateful that I didn’t fall for that trap of becoming what you came from. I might have grown up poor, but my parents didn’t think I had to look or act like I am from the ghetto. I knew that one day my articulateness and grammatical skills would propel me forward to success and it did!! The other ones who made fun of me and chose to stay behind are probably bagging groceries or stealing car radios. People need to take responsibility for their lives and stop blaming white people and the “gobment” for their lack of success. It’s a cop out. So as OldSkoool said, Pull up your friggin pants and go to college!! I knew since I was 10 years old that I wasn’t about to live up to the stereotype of a lazy ass person of color who was destined for poverty and welfare. No way!!! There is no excuse these days for not bettering oneself, with all the Pell Grants and scholarships, one can still go to college and get an education. Don’t let the strides our black and latino forefathers made go to waste. They are rolling in their graves now, if they’d be alive today witnessing this decline.

  11. rita says:

I heard that Ol skool, I’m completely old school don’t listen to anything else. I agree Sade music is for those who understand it just like rap is for those who understand. I still don’t get it or understand it but as long as I don’t have to hear it in my house i don’t care.

  12. rita says:

WOW!!! What a waste of words to call someone a (ho) whore that you don’t know anything about. My advise to you is go listen to Jay-Z who’s stopping you, don’t knock what you know nothing about. It’s a shame the way some of these youngster have turned out today. After all the black men and women who died for justice and freedom for Black American’s and this is how we repay them, with songs that degrade women and some men, fools walking around with their pants hung down to their ankles, thugs, gangs, stupidity and wouldn’t know how to respect themselves let alone anyone else, and then they want to kill someone for disrespecting them and half of them don’t know how to spell it. I’ll take Sade’s music and my old school music anyday to the music today if I have to listen to rap you might as well kill me now.
