Tuesday, March 02 2010 8:40 PM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Blog, FocusFour years ago, Joell Ortiz was on top of the world when he signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records. But two years later, he parted ways with the label. In this brief clip, Joell chronicles his journey.
Heads Up: Chris Herche

Man, miss me with the fake Jay and B quotes already. Headlines. Some of you sites will do anything for attention and traffic. You really believed B would speak to Star magazine? Tuck your tabloid in. And why would Hov need to write a letter to his daughter? Bitch please. He wrote a song! It's called "Glory" and it's pretty fuckin' revealing. He went on the record (double entendre) but you still don't get it. You may hear baby Blue's first cries but no you don't know her height, weight or what she looks like. And no you ain't gettin' a flick, fool. Can new parents get some privacy? Even if they are celebrities. Sheesh! Who raised you animals? Party at the 40/40. Paps outside. Rushin' the velvet rope. Don't trip over your integrity.
Put us here if you like. The RR store stays open 24/7. SOPA? Yeah we Showcase Our Product Always. And we're gonna continue straight ahead til somebody up there turns out the lights. Start from scratch? I'm not afraid.
YO DATS WUT IT IZ CUZ
he wasnt dropped… he asked for a release.
*Wonders when 50 will ask for his release from Aftermath.
Easily one of the best artists around, hope it bodes well for him and my favorite rap group out right now…SlaughterHouse!!!
Sorry, if your name ain’t Marshall Mathers, your album ain’t coming out.
still i think dre is overated
dre is over rated crazy…i mean he good but…c’mon son!!!..there not that crazy.dnt hate on my opinion
Dre ain’t overrated producer-wise. He’s the best in the biz, imo…. if you think about it, it seems like Dre only releases records that have that giant selling potential. See: Em, 50, G-Unit, Game (in their prime) .. nothine else really comes out of Aftermath. Bishop Lamont was dope, nothin happened… he left. Stat Quo, same, but it looks like he’s workin with the Doc lately so dunno what up with that….
Even tho some niggas got buzz, Dre holds em back so he gets his bread
I don’t think using album sales as a benchmark for quality of productions is a fair assessment of skill. I also feel Dre is overrated. He’s an amazing mix engineer and probably has the ability to take his ghost producers’ work to another level. He’s great at things like layering drums and fusing samples with live instrumentations – which to me, largely, is still more in the mixing realm, sonically. I haven’t been excited about something he’s produced in ages.
He wasn’t dropped. He asked to be released.
My bad I was late. Lol next time ill press refresh before I comment.
i think most of you criticizin dre should go to google and type “music producer definition”
then, come back and we’ll talk about who’s the best!
Maybe I’m bias but Dre will NEVER be overrated to me. Question though: do you think Dre would put out more music if he wasn’t under Jimmy Iovine? Like if Dre could get his own distribution and not worry about the major label trying to make their money, and just do it on his own, wouldn’t that be more feasible?
I think it’s also how your grind is. Think about it, what made Game drop before Bishop Lamont, Stat Quo, Joell Ortiz? I think it’s because he had appearances on other major albums. I could be wrong, and I know Game’s fame really came because of him being from Compton and all, But Bishop & Stat Quo specifically didn’t make enough outside appearances for me. Bishop had Caltroit and his other mixtapes, but I would’ve loved to hear him link up with a T.I., Fabolous, hell even Joell Ortiz. But, maybe I’m not thinking fully but I will always be a fan of Aftermath and all…I just want more albums sheesh!
let them know joell….we got your back….we as in your REAL FANS!!! SLAUGHTERHOUSE ALL DAY!
