New Music: Slick Rick “I Wanna Rock (Freestyle)”

The Ruler’s back? Well, not exactly. Ricky D tries his hand at Snoop’s “I Wanna Rock” and fails miserably. Think twice before letting those trumpets blow, party people.

  1. Kendrick says:

I think it’s dope. Good to hear his voice over something current.

  2. that-new-extra-fresh says:

only “i wanna rock” I want to hear is:

    I wanna rock right now
I’m Rob Base and I came to get down
    I’m not internationally known
But I’m known to rock the microphone
Because I get stoopid, I mean outrageous
Stay away from me if you’re contagious
‘Cause I’m the winner, no, I’m not the loser
To be an M.C. is what I choose ‘a
Ladies love me, girls adore me
I mean even the ones who never saw me
Like the way that I rhyme at a show
The reason why, man, I don’t know
    So let’s go, ’cause
It takes two to make a thing go right
It takes two to make it outta sight

  3. BuddyButters says:

I would have to agree with you though, I just gave it a good couple listens….basically if you didn’t like Rick before, this isn’t gonna change your mind….he sounds like he always did, but on something current….

  4. B.Dot says:

    @buddybutters

i disagree. he sounds bad on this. flow is off and u can barely hear him

  5. Go Ricky says:

this aint bad at all…maybe the mix is…but not the lyrics…cmon now

  6. bt says:

“B-Dot”, you’re a fucking faggot. “Fails miserably”? You’re a fucking loser. I’m not the greatest slick rick fan, but considering the multitude of BULLSHIT you’ve already co-signed you should shut your fucking mouth. B-Dot = Fails Miserably.

  7. Theloneus says:

    ^

You do notice that B.dot’s care for your “opinion” is currently at a zero right?

  8. B.Dot says:

    ^
ur wrong…its less than zero. no robert downey, jr.

  9. randomname says:

slick ricks flow> jay-z….. any time period

  10. QUEENZ says:

i’ll have to strongly disagree with you on this one B.Dot cuz i loved it

  11. B.Dot says:

i like slick rick as much as the next guy, but lets be honest people, this isnt hot.

  12. So Icy Boi! says:

All old niggaz need to retire ….its 2010 and dis nigga still tryna rap wit dat 80’s flow

  13. Consignment says:

I didn’t understand what he was talkin’ bout????

Can somebody tell me what he was sayin’?

  14. leftsidewest says:

My nigga Slick Rick got one of the sickest flows of all time! Shout out to Rick the ruler.

  15. Psike Deezie says:

    FAIL…..

  16. Jay Fingers says:

Yeah, sure, MC Ricky D sounds like he’s always sounded, but he doesn’t sound good over this.

I wouldn’t say he’s “failed miserably,” but I won’t ever listen to this again.

  17. Dan4real says:

Why hate? After all these years his flow still untocuchable on that laid back(curren$y) style, he get his punch lines right and the RULER IS BACK!!

  18. teejay says:

…I wanted to like this. I tried to. Can’t get with it. Doesn’t help how many times this beat has been freestlyed over, comes off like someone jumping on a bandwagon after it had already left.

  19. illyrix says:

    that shit is dope!

  20. You can front on the voice or his flow or whatever you like but Rick is still slick with the word play. I wasnt quite sure what to expect but he did a better job then most nigga I heard going on this beat. Get ya ear check and pay attention.

  21. GUARE says:

slick that nigga.. and i thought the shit was rockin .. slick the muthafuckin ruler .. here we go and he a pro

  22. GUEGZ says:

    Sorry Slick Rick…not feeling it!!!

RR check out my music when u get a sec

    http://www.myspace.com/guegz

  23. Theloneus says:

So Icy Boi is a good reason why people should take a hip-hop purity test before entering RR.

  24. WTF? B.DOT you sure you heard the same version as me? cuz Slick’s flow was so classic mona lisa sharp on this.. he pimped the track like how Bun B would own it. this was straight heat.

  25. DJ808 THE RULER... says:

YA GARBAGE ASS GET NADAAAAAAAAA………….. nahh, you’re wrong AGAIN – – – Uncle Ricky BLAAAAZED that track – – – I’d kill for a new SR tape, c’mon Mandy get him going

  26. dman says:

dam rick aint so slick no more

  27. ABP says:

Not good like B.dot said! but doesnt mean he cant go back to the drawing board,He;s still got the charm and stuff!

  28. DJ BOOMAN says:

I have to disagree my brotha!!! The mix is horrible but Rick is saying some shit on here!!!

  29. bap2313 says:

Bad mix.. so it’s hard to tell. With that said.. I wouldn’t say he failed miserably.

  30. Interscope Employee says:

Come on…stop dickriding niggas!! lets be honest..shit is wack. his flow doesnt go with the beat
    u cant bump that :/

  31. honeynbees says:

i understand slick rick’s a legend & i’m of his time & i understand the excitement built up in wanting to hear him still flow but he should be wary of rhyming about the wop in 2010. these guys, diddy & busta came around my way to do a biggie tribute on tues. the streets were quiet. the cars were not bumpin biggie like that & while he will always be a most loved, respected & dominant rap spirit, there’s new ppl now. the pimp of all time, iceberg slim said he stopped bcuz the ladies started making fun of his age & he didn’t hold the same sway w/his game. i don’t care for these new rappers like that but i understand they deserve a shot. the rappers from the 90’s were great & they should stop. even on stage watching them, it looks a little pitiful. i really want jay-z to stop, he’s talented but he’s a hundred. 40 is not the new 30. and at 30, one should consider moving into something else. hiphop is for the young. slick rick caught a raw deal early in his career & it was unfortunate for him & fans alike but what can you do? a guest appearance every now and then is cool, but you know he’s a hundred too.

  32. DJ808 THE RULER... says:

HARRY POTTR IS A REAL GOOD FLICK TO WATCH…………………….

  33. Boombapster says:

This is fail? Considering the multitude of latest trash that you stamp Rap Radar approved, I wouldn’t talk, especially about legends like Uncle Ricky. Stupid to even make. Anywho someone said if you liked Slick Rick in the past then you know this is how he do, just on a recent instrumental. Nuff said.

    Rick the Ruler. BB$ approved.

  34. chek me out blaaaow says:

keep playing the age game like you aint getting old you fucking lames. age nothing but a number. rakim still spit darts thatll crack your head, but heads dont wanna acknowledge that because they know his birthday. james brown was the coolest man alive until the day he died. he was dropping ill shit in his 60s. rick gonna be rhyming hotter than the majority of bums catching buzz on this site in his 60s. hip hop can have a balance of young and old, youre either dope or wack. art doesnt have an expiration date, but these fickle faggots do.

  35. Murph Man says:

B Dot…u my man and all…But you really don’t know what u r talking about with this one….

  36. VerseCutta says:

sounds like slick rick to me, maybe the mix isnt so great, but doesnt sound bad to me,
    sounds like the regular ricky

  37. B.Dot says:

Stop it people. Cause it’s Slick Rick he isn’t capable of making something wack? u sound stupid to me. This shit ain’t hot. He doesn’t do the beat justice, plain and simple.

  38. Majest says:

Shit is hot a young fags…how you saying jz should leave the game..thats where his money is plus hes the best at it. Put urself in them shoes partner then suggest that to yourself..!!!

  39. chek me out blaaaow says:

b.dot just keep checkin in with big paul roseberg before every post you slave drivin cock boy. youd be bigging this freestyle up if slick rick paid you. you faggots at rap radar are killing hip hop. shit on a legend, big up a fraud. thats how yall work here. yall got a great platform with a ton of connections, and youre not doing it justice. journalists that dont know how to ride the middle, typically dont succeed in life. yellow nigga and b dot play favorites like female fans. its why yall failed as journalists. yellow nigga notorious bitch, he pops shit online and apologizes in person.

  40. LJF says:

You see how the 1 person who posted the song and posted his opinion can persuade people? I have my own ears… and this “Young Money- Minded MF” cant tell me nothin bout Ricky D. Slick Rick did his thing on this lil freestyle! Refreshing to hear Slick Rick vocals. THE END!

  41. BuddyButters says:

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one…. doesn’t mean you have to respect it.

People who really like Hip Hop would enjoy this, those who just listen to pop music probably would not…lol

  42. Belize says:

The backs is fkd up…blame the engineer

  43. MARQUEE says:

Rap Radar sucks the dick of the Jim Joneses and Young Moneys of the world. To say this “fails miserably” is just plain wrong…seems like y’all always go out of your way to shit on old school cats like Rick & Rakim. Pathetic…

  44. mrggfep says:

The mix may be a “Fail” but Rick’s verse is on point, and he is actually talking about something other than liquor, jewels, and cars

  45. jig says:

Slick We NEED that new Shit. Pronto. ” Harry Potters a real nice flick to watch”

  46. Honestly, how you can call that “failing miserably” is kind of baffling to me. It might not be vintage Rick the Ruler but he’s got flows and some ill constructions on this freestyle. S’funny: cats say they didn’t understand what he was saying but prolly jock Ghost or Doom who kick them old nonsense-but-sound-good rhymes too. If you can’t appreciate this on some level, I gotta question how serious a hip hop fan you really are and this is not me on some old man rap sh-t here (although I can be, I won’t deny it!).

  47. Werner von Wallenrod says:

Yeah, Ian, but remember what site you’re on that’s saying that. lol

  48. this is incredible. bdot if you think this is wack than go pump up that macklemore.
