Plies Addresses Scholastic Rumor

Plies appeared on Shade 45’s Morning After With Angela Yee this past Tuesday. At the 2:24 marker, Plies takes a listener’s call and addresses dances around the rumor that he was valedictorian of his high school. Even if he were the top seed of his class, what’s the big deal? Is there something wrong with, dare I say it, being smart? Personally, I’d rather lie about being a doctor than a cartel kingpin.
Nah, nothing wrong w/ being smart, but if you sound like Plies….something is very wrong.

Wow. What a way to avoid a question. I’ll never understand though why some people are embarrassed about being smart. I’d rather think of me as an Einstein than a Corky because if they think of me as an Einstein then they’ve put themselves below me without any effort or input on my part.

Also, knowing that Plies IS a smart dude, I could never see him saying “I’m a thug. I did everything I rap about” because that would be the equivalent of indicting (or snitching on) himself. If you know about the Fed case his brother had to deal with back in the day, then you know he has to be very careful with what he says. Plies wouldn’t even tell DJ Vlad his real name on camera and got weirded out when Vlad wanted him to show the cameras his tattoos.

There’s nothin wrong with being smart at all. I graduated 4th in my class. I ain’t gonna hide that shit. We all know Plies is a smart articulate person. Even in a couple of pasr interviews, u could see how polite and respectful Plies is. His voice ain’t even the same. Lol. I’d rather be smart than a dumb ass thug or goon any day.
Plies is an effective communicator. He reaches the hood with his message because he talks like people in the hood (specifically in SW FL) talk. If he talked like a genius, then the people he’s trying to reach WOULDN’T listen. What he’s saying though, in his raps, is real/smart/principle-driven.

It’s the American dream of course….instead of spending countless hours perfecting his craft, meticulously writing lyrics, or standing for political, religious, social, or any other type of “movement” he simply spews a few bars of CRAP and lives the same life as the guys who spend all day writing. Instead of doing that, hes probably having fun. lol.
