those weak-minded opinions could never come near this
for my outlook on life is a profound view
whil the suckers act down thinking that they sound new
    only a few sound true

giving you the time to get your wack-ass style down
you punks pop junk as if life is a fantasy
knowing that hard is something you can’t be
so you front but you could never call my bluff

Peace to the god GURU “keithy E”

I remember catching him here in L.A. at a solo show back in ’98 here in L.A. at the martini lounge.
He did a routine where he walked on stage and grabbed the mike but would’nt rhyme while the dj cut up gangstar intrumentals. after about 5 minutes he spoke and said “man i dont rhyme for free , so y’all need to kick in if you want to hear me get down” the crowd was stunned , but i dug in my pocket and rushed the stage with a 20 in my hand, the brother smiled at me big and gave me a pound then said “naw duke , keep your money , im just playing i appreciate the love though” then he proceeded to ge the fuck down. later he found me in the corwd and thanked me again for showing love and had his assistant give me a glossy and he signed it….a real nice cat. I’m gon miss you god.

o….listening to this song brings a tear to my eyes. Just like many of you. I grew listening to Guru and Dj Premier create beautiful Jazz-filled Hip Hop music that when the beat started.. you felt this warm feeling inside that caused you to smile and nod your uncontrollably. Even though Dj Premier wove the mixture of Jazz and Hip Hop together it was Guru who put the topping on the cake with a voice that delivered like no other. Those head nodding days seem long gone but Guru’s lyrics have forever made an impact on my life. May God bless his soul.

  46. Nature says:

Mr Cee – Thank You for doing what was needed to be done, your mix was incredible. You’re a legend in your own right. We have lost a true musical pioneer and a voice who changed hip hop for the better. Gang Starr and Guru helped to evolve hip hop and add a new element with the infusion of jazz into hip hop. This was an era that Guru and Premier (there’s “no shame in your game” brother) owned and crafted with their genius. Unbelievable beats mixed to precision with a voice that is so recognizable that it will never be forgotten. I have always been a great fan of hip hop and jazz and the way Guru combined these two great genres with a style of his own will keep his legacy alive forever. Guru, your great delivery, awesome rhymes, and incredible voice are unmatchable and will always be the pinnicle of an era you created. Thank you Guru and Premier your music will always live in my soul. Rest in Peace Guru (you led “Brainstorm”) you will be missed but never forgotten because you are a true legend and musical icon.

Big up Mr Cee. I was feeling your emotion in that introduction. We’ve lost a legend of hip hop and left behind a f**ked up situation. I’m sure eventually the truth will out and the cream will rise but for now, we all own a piece of Keithy E and will play his records for pure time.

This was a well-fabricated but poorly executed scheme for Solar to become the bona fide gate keeper of all activities related to GURU after his death. All previous accounts that GURU emerged from his coma were patently false but necessary in order for Solar to release the letter that he attributed to GURU. This also illuminates Solar’s motive for keeping GURU’s family at a distance in his final days–trying to take control of a legacy that is clearly not his own. GURU’s legacy belongs to the Elam Family and fans of true HIP HOP world wide! There’s nothing that Solar could ever do to change that!

  55. G-Mack says:

GU–RU REST IN PEACE….GU–RU REST IN PEACE

Always loved this cat and his music; Guru and Premo are the soundrack to my college days and most of my 20’s. College girlfriend used to ride tha dilznit in rythym to that first Jazzamatazz album – fond memories.

Peace out to Mr. C for killing it on the Tribute. And peace to Premier for being such a class act about this whole thing.

And F— the drama that this Solar character is creating; Honor the Man’s memory; don’t muddy it with your pettieness and greed, LOSER!

  56. MeloSiete says:

heard about guru’s passing on tuesday morning. it hurt big. i had to hear him, but my 2-cd greatest hits was stolen seven years ago. of course, i had to hit youtube – and much thanks to youtube for providing the medium i yearned to pay my respects by simply listening to the man, guru. i sought a venue in l.a. that might play tribute but i ended up staying put and listening online. today, friday, my sister found out about it. even she, not the biggest hip hop fan in the world by far, was impacted by his passing. this was and will be the power of hip hop and lyricism with substance. fans in l.a (ca) let me know where i can convene with like minds. i’m an old schooler in my mid-30s. peace, guru. my condolences to your family and close ones.
