Pharrell & DJ Semtex Comment On Kanye Album

William Yan spotted Kanye West yesterday in the Soho section of Manhattan. No word if he was working on his new album, but Pharrell  heard it and told a French publication, “I think that people are going to be in shock. His precedent was crazy, the new one goes even further.” According to ATB, DJ Semtex caught an early preview too and said the following:

“Okay, so I’ve heard the first Kanye West joint. I was sworn to secrecy. I’m not allowed to talk about it. All I can say is it is banging. If that’s a taste of what’s coming on the album, he has smacked it. Lyrically….he is saying things like, ‘Wow, he said that?’ It is going to shock everybody, the first record.”

  12. RedRocBoy says:

I honestly believe that this dude make the best music. Every album he has put out always conveys emotions from everybody. People tried to hate on 808’s but you understand that Kanye is not just a hip-hop artist he’s a musician and what ever he felt at the time he was going to express it anyway he felt. That was deep emotions niggaz be acting like they robots he lost his mother & the best thing he ever had(up until then) . The end result was some music dark in tone with a couple light spots but G.O.O.D music none the less. So i already know this album gon’t shut shit down. GET’EM YE (p.s. Streetlights is the shit)

  13. Ac@pella! says:

  20. radd says:

For fuck sake, Kanye West is NOT A MUSICIAN. Name one instrument he plays? Come on, I’m waiting. Oh yeah, he doesn’t, because he can’t, which means he is not a fucking musician. If you think he’s a musician you are stupid. More stupid than a person who believes that he is a genius.

This guy is a very good artist, he has certainly made a big impact on HIP-HOP, but that’s it. Sorry to all you Kanye stans out there.

  21. cli-city says:

That’s why I love hip hop…After we get generic albums from hip hops best last year….So far gone mixtape kept us in the conversation…..This Year hip hop delivering in a big way…B.o.B doing big numbers….Thank Me Later is gonna be a great hybrid album…..Recovery is gonna make the world forget about that Relapse Shit we got last year…..Good As Job (my pick for album of the year)…Kanye West makes great music….J.Cole probably the most consistent lyricist right now…..Jay Electronica reminding us of what substance is…Jeezy balancing out the street and sanity..with TM103….T.I….return to rab with King Uncaged….R.E.D. album a west coast banger (I assume)….Rick Ross Teflon Don (probably gonna be the most slept on production album in the game..)…..I love Hip Hop….and Imma be supporting most of these motherfuckers……Just like how we think hip hop has changed…so has the fans..cuz we aint purchasing music anymore….lets go back to supporting our artist then maybe they’ll stop putting out bullshit.

  22. DunkDonDaDa says:

You won’t be disappointed. Kanye makes quality albums. He is a perfectionist. He worked on Stronger for 3 months to get the drums right. #TeamKanye

  27. Krypto says:

  33. Billy Rae Valentine says:

@ John, Krypto, Radd, JJ, pushakey, mike, etc.

as far as the whole “musician” debate:

John posted a clip. but that looked like some Very basic playing. like, dawg, i can play silent night on the piano that don’t make me a musician. no beef but idk i’m not convinced. he’s a hall of famer for rap and production.

honestly, he played the same note the whole time. then at the end he did more, but i wouldn’t start calling him a musician off that. that’s me. some of you would. and i’ve seen other clips of him making beats and adding riffs on the piano. he’s a sick producer. he plays instruments but in all my years i’ve just not really witnessed more than Very basic rudimentary playing.

but musician is musician. i barely consider lil wayne a musician, either. and i’ve seen him play more guitar than i’ve seen outta Kanye. no hate but it just doesn’t feel accurate. like my cousin has a year of piano lessons, does that make her a musician or someone who can memorize a handful of chords to play? no beef no hate just my thoughts.

maybe there’s more clips. that’d b cool if someone posted cuz then i’d change my tune.

  34. John says:

I respect your opinion man, I get what you’re saying, but you have too remember that if you’re definition of a musician is a man who’s amazing at playing instruments, than Hip-Hop is the wrong genre. Hip-Hop deals with different instruments than just a piano and guitars, but it also incorporates them in different ways than in other music. My opinion of a musician is someone who makes beautiful music. The beats you hear from Ye are 100% him, he creates them, he thinks of them, he flows over them, he adds his lyrics, his twist, etc.. So too me, I think he’s a musician. In Hip-Hop, he’s probably the closest you’re going too get when looking for a musician thats huge, other than The Roots of course. There are more clips, there’s clips of him controlling a whole orchestra – telling what the pianist, violinists, guitarists, should do. There was another of him playing the guitar too beats.

Again, your definition of a musician is different than mine, it’s really subjective. Hip-Hop has been the dominant genre for the past 7-8 years now though among the youth, right up there with pop. Ye has changed the game up a total of 4 times, with 4 albums. First is was the tight clothes, pink polos, than it was classy, soft beats, than the shutter shades and the black levis, and than came the full out suits. He’s been dominating and owning the genre. Too top it all off, he makes his own beats (90% of them), writes his own lyrics, and is himself and is 100% REAL. No bs stories. Do you know the balls it took to walk into the rap genre in a pink polo? Ye is the definition of a musician IMO.
