I grew up in the murder capital of the world. My neighborhood was straight up gangsta…but, I did well in school, played football in college and graduated from an Ivy League school. My parents taught me to respect others and to honor those that came before me. At some point in my high school career, I saw a cross burned in order to scare me and my team members. So, to see the use of the word nigga (even though those that use it claim that it is not the same as nigger – it is) so freely here is sad. Especially when you consider that Prince is often speaking out for the rights of blacks and other minorities. Prince, through his commitment to artistic freedom, made it possible for the likes of Dr. Dre; Master P, P Diddy, Lil Wayne, etc. to have the freedom that they do to make the music that they want.
Grow up, kids. Realize that being hard ain’t cool. Being a man is not about being hard. Being a man is about taking care of your responsibilities…not fucking without protection…and not running away from the babies you make….and it certainly is not about listening to people pretending to be gangsta
