Rappers are hypocritical. And David Banner is no exception. How many other MC’s can record a gospel track with Mary Mary and then want to fire off a “9mm”? Either way, Banner is a complicated man and, in the clip above, he justifies his duality.

much, if not all, of what he says is true. but you know, we live in a country built on hypocrisy. our mantra is freedom, justice, equality. and we… or should i say they, have never put that into practice. so the architects of white supremacy and it’s political and otherwise application on white people and black people created a nation full of hypocrisy. so when a REAL nigga thanks God and then says fuck you if you cross him, he gets criticized. but the duality of the human spirit is constant. we’re all contradictions. i take the Malcolm X approach: examine a man’s intent. weigh he deeds, but concentrate on his intent. then you’ll know where he stands.

I remember that Hip Hop Summit Russell Simmons did in Houston. Out of all of the rappers, David Banner got off stage and walked through the stadium answering questions and all. And when it was over he signed as many autographs he could and took pictures. Thats a real dude.
