It’s deeper than catered food. Here’s a first look inside Kanye’s next video as the paper of record interviewed the man behind it, Marco Brambilla. Here’s a tease as we patiently wait.
In a coming video for his single “Power” that was created by the artist Marco Brambilla, Mr. West is seen standing imposingly with a heavy chain around his neck. As Mr. West raps the camera slowly zooms out in one continuous, unedited take to reveal him in a classical structure, surrounded by female attendants who are partly or entirely nude; some kneel before him on all fours, others wear devil horns and still others are suspended upside down from the ceiling. The Sword of Damocles hangs precariously over Mr. West’s head, and behind him an unseen executioner is preparing to strike him with a blade. (ArtsBeat was allowed to watch a portion of this video but was not permitted to post it.)
I also got the inside scoop on the upcoming remix and all I can say is, “Rumble young man rumble”. Shh!

I think Ye might be up to something with the Horus stuff, but the Damocles sword is just another reference to the theme he’s been pushing for a grip now, “Fame Kills”. If you’re not real familiar with the story just google Damocles Sword and go to the wiki for it. The name Damocles itself means literally “Fame of the people” . Ye’s been shoutin’ for a minute that the fame is killing him. The story behind the sword is pretty clearly an illustration he’s using to explain how he’s feeling now that he has the fame he wanted so badly (same thing happens in the Damocles story) .
I feel badly for Ye and I pray for the dude. Cause although he says the fame is killing him, he’s obviously addicted to it, or he’d just let himself fade back into obscurity. Nah, he still wants power and fame, it’s just that now he’s dabbling with trying to attain a kind of power that can’t be so easily taken away by fickle fans or a fair weather media.
