Time to stock up on your DVD collections. Curtis Jackson has just inked a $200 million 10-movie deal for his film company, Cheetah Vision. Curtis will be funded a budget of $20 million for each film, which will be distributed through Grindstone/Lionsgate. Above is a picture on the set of The Fast and Furious 5 with actor Paul Walker, who is in negotiations to star alongside 50 in his upcoming flick, Set Up.

Looks to be more than just straight to DVD. Pre-production with “Catch 44” with Bruce Willis and Forest Whitaker, I doubt that’s straight to DVD. All that shit the Eminem said in all his lyrics about women, drugs, and whatnot, all the lives that Jay-Z ruined as a seller of drugs and his lyrics promoting that life, all the lives that 50 Cent ruined as a drug dealer, and his violent lyrics promoting that way of living…It’s funny to see these guys grow into men and how they mature beyond their beginnings. I hope that in private they ask for forgiveness for all that they have done. But it’s hard when so much of their fan base is based on the ugliness that they promoted in the world.

I swear some of you guys need to learn how to read. Its a production deal for his projects, he is not starring in all the flicks. It means his company has cut a deal to have 10 Projects financed at 20 million dollar budget for 10 years. He may star in 1, but he will have actors lined up to star in these movies why because of the budget. He latest project GUN and Things fall apart barely tipped the scale over 4 million. Now he will be able to get some good actors to star in his movies because of the budget.
Using Western Michigan for making the movies and its tax incentives to cut the cost. He did just what he set out to do, start small and grow.

Hedge Fund runs pics with Cheetah
’50 Cent’ to topline first in 10-film slate

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Randall Emmett’s Cheetah Vision and George Furla’s Hedge Fund Film Partners are teaming on a 10-picture deal that’s backed by a $200 million fund. Grindstone Entertainment/Lionsgate will release the films.
Healthcare magnate Richard Jackson, real estate developer Gary Sakwa and Daniel Ret will provide the equity. Remainder of the fund will be made up of debt and tax credits.
First film under the deal is the Curtis Jackson-toplined “Set Up,” written and directed by Mike Gunther. Paul Walker is in talks to star opposite Jackson in the heist actioner, which begins shooting next month and is budgeted at $20 million.
“Set Up” revolves around a group of friends who are catapulted into the middle of a diamond heist turned deadly. Casting is under way for the other roles. Hannibal Pictures is handling international sales.
Jackson’s previous acting credits include “Righteous Kill,” which cumed $40.1 million at the domestic B.O., and “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” which cumed $31 million.
The $200 million fund expands the existing relationship between Curtis Jackson and Emmett, who last year launched Cheetah Vision. Richard Jackson financed the first film from the banner, “Gun.”
Curtis Jackson and Richard Jackson also teamed with Emmett and Furla — who have a separate banner, Emmett/Furla Films — to produce actioner “Catch .44,” starring Malin Ackerman, Bruce Willis and Forest Whitaker. They produced “Catch .44” in association with Megan Ellison.
“The thing about ’50 Cent’ is that, just like in his music career, he isn’t someone who sits around and waits for things to get done. He came to me and said, ‘How do we move quicker on projects?’ With this new fund, we are able to do that,” Emmett said.
Fund will finance four to five pictures a year, with moderately priced budgets in the $20 million range. Partners are hoping for the second film, which hasn’t been announced, to begin lensing in February.
“It’s very hard to raise equity today and we are lucky to have such great partners, including the amazing team of Barry Brooker and Stan Wertlieb of Grindstone and Joe Drake and Helen Kim at Lionsgate,” Emmett said.
City National Bank will handle banking, while ITS Capital will handle tax credits. Grindstone is owned by Lionsgate.
Richard Jackson owns Jackson Healthcare, while Sakwa owns the largest real estate firm in Michigan.
Emmett/Furla Films have produced dozens of films, including “Righteous Kill,” “16 Blocks” and “Street Kings.”
Cheetah Vision has named Brandon Grimes to handle productions coming out of the new fund.Jackson and Cheetah Vision are repped by CAA and Violator.

Some of the best movies have small budgets… for instance… The 40 Year Old Virgin had a rough budget around $21 million, and in the box office made $180 million… not including DVD’s, etc… 50 is a smart guy. Same thing with Superbad… $20 million budget , $170 million profit

With the exception of one, every movie 50 Cent has been apart of has made over the average of 27% income. To give you the stats, the average in Hollywood is 6.2% and the “good” is seen at 25%. This is why he’s being given a 20 million budget for 10 films (which is a huge risk btw for anyone not named Scorcese, Chris Nolan, Eastwood etc.) because there are never guarantees. I mean not even the likes of Aranovski are just given 20 million without scripts, interviews, production disposal and interviews with studios per film, and these guys are rated as the best in Hollywood.
50 Cent is considered a success in Hollywood simply because his movies make profits and get the studios more than just their money back. Anyone who knows anything about the film industry would know that studios hate doing anything big budget, they are scared as shit especially in this environment. Unless there’s guarantees, they are non-responsive. Even the likes of M.Night Shamylan who gross half a billion dollars have failed in everything they’ve done.
Ultimately, this deal for 50 Cent if it goes the way his other movies have (much less budgets than 20 million btw, most of them even less than half), this deal will most likely get 50 Cent himself from about as low as 200 million to as high as 500 million within just 5 years.

no hate, but look up what comprises a hedge fund in the movie business and you’ll know that this is
not a big deal at all. That’s why the author placed the straight to dvd in the article because that is the budget allowed. Val Kilmer in his later days has this, Wesley Snipes, Van Damme, etc…Its a group of investors that will back you on name value, but THEY get a piece of the pie first from the net before the star because its their money.
And unlike a studio deal (like T.I. has or Ice Cube) where you have Cinema, dvd, and tv at your disposal, if the first two movies don’t recoup, they can terminate the contract. A studio deal guarantees you that even if you have five less than stellar returns on a 10 movie deal, the studio will still back you because they will push those movies in foreign territories as well as domestic to drive up revenue.
$20 million is no where close for a high budget flick or an even moderate budget flick, because your not even considering advertising which still is in the seven and higher figure range even for a straight to dvd release. Takers cost $32 million dollars to make and another $26 million to advertise (advertising numbers come from WSJ and sources alike).
In the end, this is just 50 putting a little spin out there (it was reported on Thisis50 before Variety) which is not a bad thing. He is doing his thing, but compared to the industry standard and what other rapper turned actors are doing, its not really noteworthy. (I mean, Common is my boy and all, but some of his acting have been cringe worthy, but he has a studio deal, not no DVD deal)
