Drake Puts R&B Mixtape On Hold

Just weeks after he dropped the first release off his It’s Never Enough mixtape, Drake tells MTV that he’s holding off on the project to focus on rap. In fact, he says he’s already two songs in for the next album. Hey, hey, hey!
“I been rapping a lot lately. Me and 40 (Noah Shebib, his producer) have been doing some great rap music, so I sort of took a hiatus on the R&B for a second. It’s cool to do R&B, I love it, but it’s just hard for me to always commit to it. Because some nights, I get in there and 40’s beats, as melodic or R&B-driven as they may be, just have that right pocket that I just wanna spit. I did this song the other night; I’ve now completed the second song for my album. So I only had one song before for the new album; two nights ago, I did the second song. I’m loving it. I’m loving the sound. I’m excited again.”

Lets face it, as great as it is to go near platinum these days, Drake didn’t have the IMPACT he was expected to have after his first album. I can’t believe it, but Drake himself proved that sales are not everything, albeit unintentionally.
Also, again unintentionally the MTV list even proved it. Even though we all agree that list is irrelevant, the fact that even they had Drake as the same spot as last year shows Drake didn’t really improve this year.
He needs to get better, if an artist like him stagnates without going up first when it really counts, it’s trouble.
