A few days ago, a rough trailer of actor Michael Rapaport’s A Tribe Called Quest documentary leaked online. The film is set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival next year, but don’t expect to see Q-Tip there. This afternoon via his Twitter account, he said he’s no longer showing his support for the film.
I am not in support of the a tribe called quest documentary. The filmmaker should respect the band to the point of honoring the few requests that’s was made abt the piece. The filmmaker shld respect the band enough to honor our request regarding the the film

Im a Virginia Tech graduate……my degree next to your high school diploma (..and thats even debatable) probably looks pretty good….

Michael Rappaport has every right to release the film as long as he states that it is an unauthorized documentary. But if I was in his shoes I wouldn’t release it just out of respect for ATCQ.
The Documentary was Nas idea and he is the producer so blame Nas not Michael Rapaport

Actually Phife, Jarobi, and Ali Shaheed came out today and said they are not supporting it either. Ali Shaheed said they asked for a few things not to be in the documentary, and it was not respected. Somethings was supose to be off the records, but people kept filming anyway.

now back to the real Hip Hop commentary. Being that ATCQ was one of the groups that fans had mad respect for, there really wasn’t an explanation of what really happened to them as a group. Tip got no steam for his solo career after the breakup even though he had mad support from the Zulu Nation, Janet Jackson and others, (which kindof shows that it was the group as a whole that may history and it was not just about Tips lyircs.) Reunion shows and recordings were rumored but never came about. So for Tip to turn around and say he’s not in support of this movie makes me believe that He may have been the reason for the break up. I need to see this film, this film needs to be shown. There’s a lot of the future generations running into ATCQ’s old albums and loving it but don’t understand why they or the sound doesn’t exist anymore. Whether or not Tip’s “being a bitch” is yet to be seen, maybe it’s documented in the film. Over all, him making a statement about NOT SUPPORTING the film will only make a bunch of folks wanna check it out even more.
