New Music: Raekwon “Butter Knives”

Yesterday morning, Raekwon told YN on Shade 45 that his next album Shaolin vs. Wu Tang was finally complete. The project doesn’t drop until next year, but here’s one of the featured tracks produced by Bronze Nazreth. Look out for the official single next month. Sounds like The Chef’s blade is still sharp.

  36. uptown215 says:

killa hog n whoever else agreed wit him is all bitchin still lol, what r ya mad for ya actin like he wont let ya suck his dick anymore. Ya actin suspect just from the comments. This the last comment Im makin cuz its funny to me, Fuck what yall think this suck tuff, nigga is a legend n is not just hip- hop hes a musician he can whatever the hell he wants. Nobody says nothing when producers like RZA take samples from songs from other genres, its all music shut that nut ass shit up bitches lol

  37. casper21 says:

Sound like a vintage Chef joint, but I actually have a problem with this. When 8 Diagrams was coming out Rae was the most vocal in the group saying he hated the direction RZA was going in with the production and that’s when he first mentioned doing an album called Shaolin v Wu Tang and that there wouldn’t be any RZA production. If you feel that strongly Rae, why include a track that sounds like RZA produced it?? I mean I know your not trying to snub your brother like that, but either come with a completely different sound or just bite your tongue and get RZA to produce your shit. Cuz to anyone who was really paying attention when you were bitching back then, its a slap in the face to RZA to have someone else (likely a affiliate or protege) producing his sound when nobody does it better than him anyway.

  38. killabwoy says:

    Dis ting wicked

  39. DJ "suMo* says:

    Fire Flamez.!

  40. Wiseallah says:

@casper21 your a little late wit that…they been made up. the waves is clear. Since that incident Rae and Rza been doing joints…Chamber Music album, his own Cuban Linx pt II, Wu Massacre…it’s all good now. Peace

  41. To “casper21”

I feel you on that statement man. I could very easily see on the surface, how it looks this way. Watch this youtube video again and see what Rae’s whole problem actually was…w/ Rza’s production on 8 Diagrams.

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxVklC45bOQ

The sound wasn’t what the fans wanted, period. Rae and Ghost knew this. Then after a while, the remainder of the Clan came out and agreed as well. The rhymin was sick, but that’s never been the issue. It was Rza dictating everything again, and telling all of them to “trust him” and that he knew what he was doing.

8 Diagrams was Rza, but let’s be real…it WAS NOT RZA. Rae wanted the Rza that the fans wanted, and that classic Wu Tang sound that their known for. Not some crazy hippy-ass, guitar-swinging, experimental Bob Diggy shit. He can do that stuff on his own shit.

When it comes to WU, it needs to stick to the formula. To what people are holding their breath for.

That’s all Rae was saying B. So “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” should have “that” classic Wu sound, that’s it. Bong.

  42. wyatt earp says:

about the bieber collaboration- how do YOU make your money? rae’s a businessman as much as an artist

  43. Kelly-Blast says:

I’m from NYC. Been listening to the WU since they first came out. The hip hop era they came in from was the shit. Back then,Rae was that nigga because he came with something different and meaningful. it’s 2010 now. That nigga is straight fucking wack. Still sounds the same way he did back then. Where is the elevation at? How long he gonna be a coca seller with killers in the projects pushing MPV’s thats fat? How long we suppose to listen to the same exact content from these old niggas? Give it up already. I bet that nigga dont even go double wood?

  44. WuIsTheShit says:

probably a RZA beat, am I right?
    Kick Ass song btw

  45. Andre says:

FUCK Y’ALL. Hey @Kelly-Blast why you dont go blow yourself cocksucka?! Go to listen some faggot ass Jay song. This is straight from the 90′, when the rap was rap. Now most of these niggas in the game suck some fucking balls. This is raw, this is street, this is real.

  46. m1 says:

@Wuls- nah not a RZA beat,,Bronze Naz my g. The RZA of the moment far as WU goes.

  58. d-bo says:

    @ Kelly-Blast
Let me guess, you like Drake and Nicki Minaj music?? Ain’t nothing wrong with not changing your style, especially when your dope as fuck. Fact is, you can’t win nowadays. If you change your style, you run the risk of becoming a sellout or a follower, if you stay true then peeps will be sayin that you can’t adapt. Fuck that. Guess what? 5 years from now ain’t nobody gonna be listening to Drake’s jew ass or Nicki’s fake ass. Rae and Wu been doin this for mad long and still have a following. Eat a dick faggot.

Oh, btw, Bronze Nazareth produced this shit, not RZA.

    Kelly-Blast, I’m a Wu fan and I agree 100. the SAME CONTENT.

The best part of this whole boring track is the kungfu sample. I don’t mind them taking it back to that but at least update the content. and for God’s sake, get a better beat.

  63. Good Sir says:

@d-bo and other cats criticizing Kelly-Blast,

instead of dickriding Wu, why not think for a second that maybe what Kelly-Blast is saying might actually be valid. Obviously he/she is not a Drake/Minaj dickrider; didn’t you read the post? Kels straight referenced Wu lines that typical new cats would probably have no idea existed: “MPVs that’s fat.”

y’all are so brainwashed that you don’t realize part of the problem of why rap is corny is because the game is completely stagnant. On the mainstream, it’s pop. and in the underground, it’s stagnant.

I’d prefer hip hop to evolve while keeping its roots, but that would require actual talent and hard work. I love Cuban Linx to death, but I want to hear Rae bring new shit to the table. His life is obviously way different than those times. Talk about that.

Talk about how you’ve travelled the world. what you’ve seen. How that makes you rethink Shaolin. Instead of being the hot new samurai off the block (which he obviously isn’t), be the retired teacher who guards the 36 Chambers and school us on your worldly wisdom.

  64. Blumentritt says:

@KellyBlast. Your point is moot. What else would you expect a hardcore rap group like Wu-Tang to rhyme about? It’s like telling Martin Scorcese not to direct another mafia flick because we’re sick of watching mobsters on the silver screen or telling Stephin King not to write another horror novel because we’re tired of reading about murders or paranormal themes. Raekwon and Wu-Tang music is a hardcore rap genre that just happened to emerge in the 90s and these cats just happened to create and perfect the art just like Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk did of the Jazz Bebop genre of the 40s and 50s. Their style and music is timeless and the listeners won’t want to hear it any other way. If you’re sick of it, then move on to another genre, era or flavor. Nuff said.

  65. Shogun of the Dark says:

who listens 2 Rae?!?!?!? EVERYBODY WHO’S ANYBODY OUT HERE !!! CROATIA IS IN THE BUILDING KIIIIID !!! 2 ALL YA’LL HATERS OUT THERE…SUCK A FAT DICK UNTIL U KICKUPP BIIIIIITCH!!!

  66. verbal eye says:

Been a fan since day one. Digging the last album cant wait for the new one to drop!

  67. TallGanjSmoker says:

Hey, I really feel what casper and smartmediaman were saying. Look, nobody’s happy with the whole Justin Bieber shit. Let’s not fuck around – that was just a straight up wack move. I know that this is going to generate a whole lot of criticism, but I feel like Rae on a song with Bieber wasn’t JUST about business. I don’t know for sure, but I think that its can at least party be attributed to a misinterpretation of white culture by a black artist. I think its comparable to The Roots on Jimmy Kimmel. Hip hop artists who don’t usually listen or watch late night or listen to tween pop only see the popularity of these celebrities but don’t really get how people in the real world feel about them. So what they see as a simple crossover we interpret as wackness by association.
I’ve seen Wu-Tang and its members in Toronto, London and New York, and they always rip it (with the exception of Golden Arms – wack, always has been). 8 Diagrams was complete Rza trying some new shit out. Wu-Tang fans don’t want shitty melodies and weak Beatles samples, however; they want grimy classic Wu beats, kung-fu samples and straight up dope rhymes. Hopefully the Wu can get their shit together and help resurrect hip hop to what they made it.
