  3. Belize says:

So Oprah’s anti-rap except for Jay-Z. Now when he’s all businessman and his music’s not as good. And because he wrote a book. And because he’s non-controversial. Oprah gone white!

    @Dre

Even though the fans have heard his stories dozens of times, there are still millions of people who havent who dont bump rap/Hip HOp like that. This Oprah feature is a great look for him and Hip-Hop as a whole.

  7. JAY-Z DEFINETLY MADE A GREAT LIFE 4 HIMSELFTHROUGH MUSIC…..INSPIRATION!

I DONT KNOW IF YALL EVER HEARD OF THIS KID, BUT I THINK HES DOPE…I DIDNT HEAR ABOUT HIM UNTIL YOUNG MONEY TALKED ABOUT SIGNIN HIM NEXT……THAT WOULD BE A GUUD LOOK FOR THEM, CUZ DUDE NICE!

  9. justmyopinion says:

I am a Jay-z fan don’t get it twisted but I got to agree with the first post….How many different times will this story be told? I read the other post there are people who don’t listen to rap/hip-hop who haven’t heard/read the story but come on tell it from a different perspective every two or three times how about that. Not saying, bend the story.

  10. Rhyme says:

Props, HOV’s story never gets old.

  11. blaqscorpio says:

HOV! If you’re tired of hearing the same story just don’t listen, simple.

  12. powww says:

yh co-sign Rhyme….but 50’s story is even more inspirational

  13. boston-morgan says:

Home2Home concert was amazing. Jay did the best Biggie dedication at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 14th. It was priceless. I was lucky enough to be on the field witnessing history.

  14. Swag Daddy says:

@Dre and @justmyopinion, it’s a great story which many still had not heard and it is a inspriration to some like this “Up-Coming” young man, who to grew up the pit falls, loss of his father at a young age, then taken from his mother, dealing with the struggles in and out of the streets and now trying to make it in the HipHop world, starting his own Record Lable and generating a very strong loyal fan base. They call him “Novi”, “Novi Novak”……check him out on youtube, you won’t be dissapointed.

  18. Carolina Girl says:

I liked it. It was cool. It wasn’t really his life story it was more so about how he made it into the rap game and his perspective on the culture as a whole and how far that the culture has grown.

  19. Dr N Black says:

Good interview. I rememba Pac, Krs1, Kool Moe Dee, Chuck D, Chubb Rock, Ice T and a few othas used to give the most exciting interviews and intelligent interviews ever. Jay is always relaxed, he makes me miss dem old interviews, but Jay still my ninja.

  20. […] Oprah launched her new series Master Class on her new network OWN and Jay-Z was the first feature. It’s quite the story we’ve heard a lot of times before: his childhood, his come up, his rise to fame, his work ethic and the like. Parts 2 and 3 below. Thanks to RR. […]

  21. Black Shady says:

Great piece. I enjoyed watching this.

but lets be honest…Jay’s story aint that amazing lol. I’d rather see 50’s or Kanye’s or Eminem’s…
I aint comparing the skills/what they contributed, cuz we all know Jay did way more. im just talking about their story…

  22. VIBRANT THANG says:

Who predominates looking @ Oprah shows? Not white people moreso/overwhelmingly? I remember Jay-Z saying @ 2009 EMA that he wish there wernt a rap category, or that it would be world music and not rap music or that he is a rapper but a musician b/c he makes music. Well lets c how much Jay-zitis white people can take and accept. I guess Jay-z belief that the Oprah audience would come around to his offering. Good luck *shrug*

  23. Itz Yourz says:

It’s not the story…its the storyteller. Who better than to tell there story…a different way everytime and you still listen to it (isnt that what rap is anyway). Jay-Z. He’s the man. The motivation is encouraging…niggas didnt want ot give’em real deal…fuck yall…I’ll build my own label…then sell it to yall at top dollar. Like he said in one of his songs “We made Us”…thats real right there. As many times as doors are shut in our faces (minorirites) we still find a way to be successful to survive. Yall niggas stand up. He repping for yall….us….dis shit right here (rap game, the struggle, the dedicatiopn of wanting and getting more then what they tryna give you)…ITZ YOURZ!

  24. The beat made me do it says:

Did this somehow turn into unsigned hype?? Get that shut outta here niggas.

Gonna have to start callin this shit A&R radar

  25. sweetbabygigi says:

@ Dre, i completely agree, this is just what society needs, another television drama dedicated to the bio about celebrities (sarcasm) as if vh1 behind the music wasnt enough..

  26. sweetbabygigi says:

@blaqscorpio..its just not about the perpetual story of his bio, oprah and Jay has millions, and by craeting a new network that talks about his life and other celebs life, which we all KNOW, they make more millions just by us tuning in to watch it…CREATIVITY can go a long way..

  27. slick says:

once again jay wins. while all the other rappers went on a fuck oprah crusade because of her criticism of hip hop, this dude took the time out to explain our culture to her in a way that humanized all of us. he told her why he sold crack, why he says bitch, why he says nigga all the shit oprah is opposed to, and even if she don’t agree with the cat she came away impressed and with a whole different outlook on rappers. big ups to the homie for that, cause even though u heard the story a million times, believe me the oprah fanbase didn’t hear this shit a million times. and she got a huge fucking fanbase that lives by her opinion. this shit is a win for hip hop
